Guest guest
My 14 yr. old son is Dev. Delayed at about 4-6 yrs. of age, but started puberty at 10 yrs old. Recently, he's been touching his genital area excessively, especially at school. It's become a tremendous problem and his school wants him to be hospitalized for meds adjustment. Does anyone know of any out-patient programs for sexual behavior of d.d. teens? We really don't want him put in an overnight setting as we feel this would be traumatic. Guest guest
Hi, Tippy, I'm rather surprised that the school seems to want to jump right to Meds adjustment for this. Have there been any attempts at behavior modification techniques or other means? Is your son aware this is inappropriate? I believe there have been materials mentioned on this forum recently (or maybe on the ACC forum) on this topic. Guest guest
This is a big issue with most families I know with boys (and some girls) this age. My son is 17. We did a fair amount of "pre-teaching" before this became an issue - but it still did at school this year. He was rubbing himself during classes and in the bathroom. This would cause ejaculation - he would need to change underwear etc. etc. etc.....His case manager has done a good job of addressing this with Pat. He has a social story about this that is reviewed frequently - about appropirate and inappropriate places. He is getting it....in addition, we have had Pat's 20 year old brother talk to him about not masterbating in public places EVER and the reasons why. This was very helpful too. I can no longer even mention the topic to Pat. He does not want to hear his mom talking about this. He just screams if I try to bring it up. A hospitalization sounds totally absurd to me! I just can't imagine they would be addressing the issue in any way that it needs to be addressed. Good luck with this difficult topic.
