I had inflammation, redness, and pain prior to diagnosis and

treatment. All of these issues were gone after my third

treatment and remain gone well after my 8th. I also

experienced hearing loss which is also gone.

Hi Ellen

It is probably wise for CLL patients to visit to an

ophthalmologist every two years, perhaps annually in some

cases.

CLL can infiltrate the eye...although fairly rare.

" Ocular involvement in leukaemia can precede the diagnosis

of leukaemia, can occur during the course of the disease, or

be a sequel to therapy with steroids, chemotherapy, bone

marrow transplantation or total body irradiation. From an

aetiopathogenetic standpoint, ocular involvement can be

direct as a result of leukaemic infiltration or indirect due

to effects of anaemia, thrombocytopenia, hyperviscosity,

immunosuppression or infections. "

leukaemia "

I have had a few episodes where I was seeing a color

spectrum radiating through my visual field. I'm seeing a

retina specialist next week to get it checked out. The few

times it has happened was when I was very tired.

I saw my eye doctor today and it appears that my problem

with the light streaks, etc., is due to posterior vitreous

detachment, a benign condition that most older people get

when the vitreous tugs at the retina and eventually

separates from the retina. The vitreous is the white,

jelly-like part of the eye, it liquifies more and more as

one ages. Unrelated to cll. I had one about a year ago in

the other eye, but this one presented slightly differently.

It's still scary, though. You have to wait it out. It took

me about 1/2 a year to stop seeing flashes of light

peripherally in the right eye. You also get this giant

floater (usually) called a Weiss ring. It's real

bothersome, but apparently is a good thing, as it is

protective of the retina when you get a PVD.
