Guest guest
I don't know if anyone here is taking Levothyroxine after having their thyroid removed but if there is anyone, you may want to note this article that I came across and discuss it with your doctor. It says that there is an interaction between Gleevec and Levothyroxine. http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/517171 The article also notes that all patients on Gleevec should have their thyroid tested because many of the Gleevec side effects are the same as in hypothyroidism. I remember years back there were quite a few of us who had our thyroids tested because we realized just how many features we had of hypothyroidism (fatigue, weight gain, muscle and joint pain, dry skin, menstrual irregularities, cold all the time, etc) but we all came back with normal TSH counts so in our case it was in fact the Gleevec that was causing these things to happen and not some thyroid issue. I can't even think of one person really who has been diagnosed with hypothyroidism since having CML but I guess it's a good idea to have your thyroid checked once a year anyway. Guest guest
Tracey, This is interesting. I haven't read the article yet, but I will. I was actually diagnosed as being Hypothryoid along with being diagnosed with CML. I started taking Levothryoxine about 2 weeks before taking Gleevec. I have been taking it since then. Also interesting to me is that I haven't reached CCR or PCRU yet. Still coming up FISH and PCR positive on test results. Thanks for the info....going to go off and read it now. B.
