Guest guest
Hi Steph, A year of struggling? no great hurry then.... The t4 is in range but not particularly high.... the t3 is good considering the level of t4 so he must be ok at converting and making t3 in the first place... BUT... (there's always one)... The raised TSH shows that in order to produce the thyroid hormones, his thyroid is having to be driven hard to do it, hence the raised tsh. In some countries when his tsh got to 2.5 he would be classed as hypothyroid.. (not in the uk though). It would be worth getting his thyroid antibodies tested as this could be Hashimotos....... If it is then he should start thyroid replacement sooner rather than later, before he gets other associated problems. x > > Results > Serum TSH 2.3 range 0.55 to 4.78 > Serum T4 12 range 9 to 23 > Serum free 5.0 range 3.5 to 6.5 Triiodthyronine level. >
Guest guest
Thanks He did have antibodies done but a while ago ( negative might be worth repeating)and he was left a couple of years inbetween each visit. His Mum had Graves disease and had the op as she was so skinny. Hope he will get some where now. Guest guest
His TSH needs watching. Most people feel best with a TSH of 1.0 or less. His free T4 is low, and for those not on thyroid hormone replacement a normal reading for fT4 should be just above the middle of the reference range, so his should be somewhere in the region of 15/16. However, his free T3 looks fine. He should be tested to see whether he has antibodies to his thyroid. The thyroid function blood tests however, ONLY test the level of thyroid hormones in the blood, they do NOT show whether he might be suffering with peripheral thyroid hormone deficiency. He would need the Genova 24 hour urine test to see how much T4 and T3 has been used at the cellular level. Does he know what his TSH was before these last results Stephie? Luv - Sheila Hi everyone You might or might not remember my hubbie being told he had chronic fatigue. He had to pace himself he was told? He went back to endo a year later and has just had last of six monthly iron infusions. A different endo has now had his thyriod tested. Results Serum TSH 2.3 range 0.55 to 4.78 Serum T4 12 range 9 to 23 Serum free 5.0 range 3.5 to 6.5 Triiodthyronine level. They all seem low to me but although I have learnt tuns of information about thyroid problems over the years have never been great at reading thyroid results. Help please!
