Guest guest
Hello Sheila I've only been taking the Levothyr. for nearly 4 weeks now so a bit more to go before I can see any changes. My next test is due on the 21st March. My nutritionist/kinesiologist recommended I take some B3 (50 mg)on a daily basis as he says that he helps to convert the T4 into T3. I've read conflictual comments on the internet and I'd like to have your full approval before I take it. I'm also taking most of the vitamins mentionned in Dc Peatfields'book. Thanks Pascale
Guest guest
Hi Pascale, There does appear to be conflicting information about the use of Niacin (Vitamin B3) and hypothyroidism. A study showed that taking high doses (2/3000mgs) did appear to slow down thyroid hormone secretion and when the Niacin was stopped, thyroid levels were increased, but this is a lot of Niacin to take. On the other hand, Niacin is considered an excellent vitamin that the body needs, especially in those suffering depression. Read about the benefits of taking Niacin here http://www.lifeclinic.com/focus/nutrition/vitamin-b3.asp. My husband took 350mgs Niacin to help lower his cholesterol, which it did and at such a dose, I very much doubt there would be a problem with it lowering his level of thyroid hormone. You should be taking 200mcgs Selenium and 15mgs zinc together with high doses vitamin C (2/3000mgs) to help with conversion.
