Guest guest
Forwarding message to the group:- As you request in your new member welcome letter, I would like to introduce myself and tell you a bit about my thyroid problems. I am 28 and was on the contraceptive pill Yasmin from the beginning of 2008 to mid 2009. This pill completely wrecked my health, and it has taken me a long time to recover from the many symptoms I got from this pill. I feel that I have now mostly recovered from the side effects, although I feel my body is still not in balance. I started using natural progesterone cream at the end of last year, which made my pretty bad PMS symptoms (weepiness, aggression, depression etc) disappear. I am pretty sure that my thyroid is not working properly. It is visibly enlarged, and I have a family history of thyroid problems. My mother, grandmother and all her sisters have had theirs removed, and my cousin was also diagnosed fairly recently. I always have cold hands and feet, and am very sensitive to cold. I am doing a postgraduate degree at the moment, but have a lot of problems concentrating on the reading I have to do, despite it being of great interest to me. I am really tired, especially in the mornings (although I used to be an early riser), my eyelids are really swollen when I wake up. I get dizzy a lot. I have other symptoms of hypothyroidism, especially emotional ones. This is why I went to the NHS doctor a few weeks ago. He wasn’t even interested in my symptoms, but agreed to test my thyroid. When the blood results were back, I was told they were in the normal range. I then went to the surgery and asked for a paper copy of my results. It turned out that my TSH is 3.2, which would be treated in most other countries, seeing as I have symptoms, but not by the NHS. I also suspect I had adrenal fatigue due to being on Yasmin, and don’t think this has cleared up completely yet. So now I am basically trying to get the doctor to lower my TSH to make me feel better, and I was hoping to find some info on how to best go about this on your forum. I was so glad to find your website and the forum, thanks for putting it together and helping me and others when the NHS is just ignoring thyroid problems. Kind regards, Kathrin
