Hi P,

Well the illness I had was Lupus but that is a inflammation throughout the whole body including the blood and the vascular system (veins) so don't worry it isn't that.

What your body is saying is that it is upset and it is producing too much histamine from the liver - try if possible to avoid anti histamines if you can - but I will leave that to you - as that will just be repressing the condition not getting to the bottom of it.

If you look at what i have listed below you can see with my nutrition hat on that your body could be out of sync on vitamins and minerals - did your issues start when you took the high doses of Vitamin C can I ask because this could be causing an imbalance in the other vits and minerals the body needs. Taking Vitamin C long term depletes Vitamin B.

Here are some notes for you

The symptoms are thought to be caused by mast cells in the surface of the skin releasing histamines without the presence of antigens, due to the presence of a weak membrane surrounding the mast cells. The histamines released cause the skin to swell in the affected areas.

Histamine causes the blood capillaries to widen and increases their permeability so more fluid passes from the blood to the tissue. This causes local swelling, edema and redness.

A lot of issues come from the gut so take a probiotic drink every day if you can - this will help the lining of the tummy and gut be calm and could help with the issues involved.

Essential Fatty Acids/GLA - be sure that you take an essential fatty acid/ GLA supplement on a daily basis. EFAs aid in prostaglandin synthesis. Prostaglandins regulate immunity, cell recognition and inflammation. EFAs help suppress the formation of leukotrienes, which are 1000 times more inflammatory than histamines.

Vitamin C helps to relieve allergic symptoms and prevent inflammatory reactions.

Vitamin C provides an antihistamine-like effect (without the side effects of antihistamines).

A deficiency of magnesium causes mast cells to increase histamine secretion.

Magnesium helps the body metabolize essential fatty acids into prostaglandins, which regulate many body functions.

Calcium reduces histamine production

What I would suggest is that you take a very good multi with minerals and perhaps drop your Vitamin C down a little - make sure you take an essential fatty acid complex. Your multi should contain good levels of B complex at least 25 mg of the big ones. Also you might like to take as an extra some Vitamin E around 100 mg which should thin your blood a little (do not take if you have bleeding issues or are on blood thinners).

If you suddenly stop taking C when you have been taking high doses for long term you can get what they call re-bound scruvy - which is itchy rough skin - just drink plenty of water and try to reduce it gradually.

Hope this helps don't hesitate to ask if you need anything else.

Happy to help

Best wishes

Mandy
