Guest guest
HI there, Yes I have had this but it wasn't diagnosed as a condition as such - the dermotologist just commented to another dermotologist - her skin is dermographic. This means the skin is inflammed - often this problem comes from histamine being over produced by the liver. My partner has it - if he scratches his back it looks awful big weals all over him. Just lately it has got better - he has been taking a multi vitamin with quite high doses of zinc and also Vitamin C - and it has cleared up almost completely. You need to stop the histamine over producing and more often than not this can be helped by nutritional support. I had this condition but mine was due to generalised inflammation and thyroid auto immune issues but my partner didn't have that - so it isn't always anything to do with thyroid. It's very similar if not the same as urticaria. Take a good multi vitamin with good strengths of zinc at least 15 mg and C of about 1,000 mg and you should find this goes although it might take a while. It isn't anything to worry about at this stage my other half has had it for years until recently. best wishes Mandy
Guest guest
Thanks Mandy. I do not suffer from any itchiness when the lines appear. Did you or your partner have any itchiness associated with the weals? I don't even know I have the lines until I feel the lumps on my face, or I look in the mirror and think I have developed fine, white wrinkles overnight lol. I've had a look online and I'm not sure whether I trust the site, but it says that blanched lines with no urticaria = 'false dermographism'. On the website, it states: " Forms of false dermographism (misnomers, not associated with urticaria) include (1) white dermographism, which is a blanching response resulting from capillary vasoconstriction following skin stroking and is more pronounced in persons with atopy " http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/1050294-diagnosis It might not be a reliable site??!! I think the safest bet is to ask the docs about it. You mentioned that you had dermographic skin. You said it was due to generalised inflammation and thyroid auto immune issues. If you don't mind me asking, when you say 'generalised inflammmation', what do you mean? I am only asking because I would like to bring it up with my doctor, and it would be good to know whether another doctor said it, plus I don't quite understand what sort of inflammation issues you were dealing with, so that would be great to know if you don't mind answering. It would be really helpful to me because perhaps the doc can look into it a bit more for me, if necessary. Sorry - badly worded paragraph, but my brain is a bit fogged up today. Thanks for the advice about nutritional support. I currently take 3000mg of Vit C daily, however I have stopped taking Zn supplements because my levels seemed to be good, but I might have my Zn levels checked again to see if I need to supplement again. Thanks also for the reassurance about it being nothing to worry about. It seems like a fairly benign condition, however because I know so little about it, I feel like I need to be more informed. After that, I can lock it away and not think about it again (o; I didn't mean it to sound like it was only associated with thyroid conditions. That is clearly not the case. It is just that there seems to be a link between it and thyroid conditions. Thanks again for your reply. It has been very helpful.
