HI DEE

What T3 are you taking, and how did you start off taking it. T4 was not doing me

any good having been on it for years, but when prescribed T3 on its own at 20mg

(smallest dose) it caused me to have a bad upset stomach, so is it a case of

perhaps crushing up a pill and take a small ammount say twice a day until you

get used to it, and is your GP monitoring you with blood tests, and does he mind

you self medicating.

The one thing I won't be fobbed off with again is any more psychiatric drugs, as

it is those that caused damage to me.

Hi KathleenI take levothyronine which my gp now prescribes, he didnt and was completetely against me stopping the thyroxine so i was buying cytomel from the mexican pharmacy but after much persuassion and seeing my tsh improving he now happily prescribes for me.I am taking 80mgs a day split into 2 doses and find that i feel more benefit if i tsake with food.I also started with 10mgs a day split into 2 doses for 5 days then increased by 10mgs every 5 days til i got to the 80mgs which i have been on for about 2 months, it is a slow progress but hopefully if you try this it may work for you too, i really hope it does.Love Dee xFrom: bty94627179 <kranger1@...>thyroid treatment Sent: Mon, 21 February, 2011 12:55:02Subject: Re: T3 ONLY AND LOST A STONE IN 2 WEEKS VERY HAPPY!!

Hi Dee,

Just wanted to know what your GP or Endo has said about you self medicating ,

are they happy with what you are doing ? just wanted to know only I know my Endo

is not really happy with me taking T3 because I wanted to lower my T4 and take

more T3 but he said no to that , but since I have taken T3 I at first lost 11

lbs ,seems to have stopped now though !!!!

HI DEE

Thanks for this advice and the fact that you mention taking it with meals, but

when I was prescribed T3 I did not even know that it was T3,so took it in the

same way as T4 and not with food.

I have not had any thyroxine since just after Xmas and my TSH is going up.

I will ask my GP on Wed if he will prescribe a small ammount as I don't like

wasting drugs if they do not suit.

My GP was not cross that I had stopped taking thyroxine and he was supposed to

be researching what to give me, but he has had enough time for his research now,

and he had also said that he would prescribe anything I wanted to try.

Ask any doctor who says such things to cite references to the

medical evidence to show that it is dangerous for those suffering the symptoms

of hypothyroidism to be prescribed T3. Tell such doctors it is no more

dangerous than taking Aspirin when needed. Taking any drugs is dangerous if

given in the wrong dosage. These doctors hide behind their own ignorance coming

out with ridiculous statements and frightening their patients into submission.

I am pleased you challenged your GP Dee and hopefully, he will

now consider prescribing T3 for other patients who are not doing well on

T4-only therapy.

Go see your endo. holding your head held high Dee with a big

smile on your face and tell him exactly what you have done and the effect and

remind him of what you were like when you first saw him. If he has forgotten,

because he sees so many patients, tell him to look in your medical notes and

then to look at you now.

i'm pretty sure the dose you take is probably 80mcg (one mcg = one millionth of

a gram) as opposed to 80mg (one mg = 1 thousandth of a gram)? (hope you don't

think i'm being picky!!!!!)

excellent news about how well you are doing. did you have rt3 issues or

conversion problems with the t4 only?
