Guest guest
Greetings and Welcome- Meds and " behavioral therapy " administered correctly can bring success. It is important that the " behavioral therapy " be done by someone with OCD and CBT experience. It might be helpful for everyone here if you mention where you live and the resources you will be using. Also, please tell us who you are. Everyone around here ususally mentions thai name and where they live when posting. jim in san diego

We did this without medication so it was very evident that her improvement came from the CBT. I haven't seen any contamination OCD (my daughter's major symptom) since a small incident in June. Then we had a few days of minor OCD (erasing compulsions and scrupulosity) at the beginning of school in mid-August. No OCD since then. We haven't done needed any of the CBT exposures since June! Good luck! in San Diego

Guest guest
Dear Patt-- Hope all goes well for your son. If I were in your shoes, here's what I'd do: 1. Ask the doctor to tell you the exact name of the procedure s/he is recommending. 2. Post a question to this list about this procedure. We're a pretty diverse group, and amongst us all, we've had a lot of different types of surgery. I'm guessing that someone here will be able to give you some firsthand information. 3. You might also want to check out what Medline and Medscape articles have to say about this procedure. If you're not familiar with these databases, just go ahead and ask us on the listserv to help out. Quite a few of us use these internet resources all the time in regard to our achalasia, so we're getting to be old pro's at this. Best of luck! She has had 3 major operations and she needs a treakostomy but the doctors wanted to start her immunizations and my daughter said no. However, they are saying the suregeon will not do the operation wihtout her getting her shoots. Can they do this to her like this in Florida. How do I get the information I need. Being in the NICU makes us almost helpless in a lot of things even when we have seen mistakes made and the child paying for it. I would appriciate any information you could give me. Guest guest
Why on earth doesn't she sit down right now and write her religious exemption letter and SHOVE it in that doctor's face? Only thing is - I don't think I would want such a hateful doctor operating on my child. Something to consider - perhaps it is only the hospital staff and not the doctor who is saying the doctor won't operate unless baby is vaccinated. Guest guest
Not so sure I can offer you any sugestions except that my thaughts are with you. What is the prognosis for the baby? If you as the family are to be responsible for the care of this baby shurly you can have some control over what treatment or lack of treatment she is given? My thoughts are with you anyway.... maryanne > Anyone who has any ideas on how to help Elaine, please do so. Guest guest
Does the hospital have a patient advocate on staff? I'd ask him/her whether the doctor is following a hospital policy, and explain that you'd like to file a religious exemption if necessary. need information > > > My granddaughter was born 26 weeks gestation and is 31/2 mo. old and still > in > neonatal intensive care. Guest guest
I find my parents like to believe that the nice nurses and doctors can't possibly be wrong. Explain to them that the nurse probably sincerely believes flu shots are good, but she's basing it on what she's told, that flu is a killer of 36,000 people each year in the U.S. There are NOT that many flu deaths. In 2005 (I can't find a more recent one) there were actually 63,001 deaths but it included ones from flu (1,812) AND pneumonia (61,189). Print out page 33 from here: (http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/nvsr/nvsr56/nvsr56_10.pdf) Maybe if your parents see that the nurse's recommendation is based on a severe twisting of the facts they will be more reassured that the flu is not the big threat its portrayed as. Plus, there is no guarantee it will work and there are serious side effects, including death, from any vaccine. Guest guest
Thanks for the information, I have passed it on to my Mom today. I am also going to pass the information on to the nurse. She posted on another group that she will come to your house and a give you the " life saving flu shot " . All you have to do is give her office a call. I cringe to think of the damage she does in a day. >
Guest guest
Does anyone know if there is any check on medicines a GP has written prescription for but it has not been dispensed. The GP thinks I am on thyroxine (150mcg) and T3 (20mcg) but I am using Erfa. So I have been taking the prescriptions and getting them dispensed. I am now inundated with thyroxine which I am not using. I am using some of the T3 with the Erfa. So, what I am wondering is that when the doctor gives me a prescription for thyroxine I just don't take it to the chemist. I do not know whether the doctors have an audit where they look at the prescriptions written and the money they have had to pay out and then question where it doesn't tally. I do not want them to ask why I am not taking the thyroxine as I have already had run ins with them about the T3 and have already been taken off the books of one of them because of it. Another thing is, what do I do with the spare thyroxine - I cannot very well take them back to the chemist, and putting them down the toilet is not right. Guest guest
Hi Lilian, Hmm good one this! I don't know if there is a connection- there didn't seem to be when I stopped asking for repeats of thyroxine it was never questioned, but then I didn't need to see him about anything else until he left and then I came clean with my new GP. Maybe I wasn't chased up because he wasn't a good doc! I can't think that just accepting prescriptions and not getting them dispensed would cause a problem- after all doc doesn't know which chemist you use-I don't know how the system works wether is is done centrally or locally- but you need him onside for your other medical things so this isn't a good dilemma. thyroid treatment From: lilian15@...Date: Mon, 21 Feb 2011 21:23:06 +0000Subject: Need information Does anyone know if there is any check on medicines a GP has written prescription for but it has not been dispensed. The GP thinks I am on thyroxine (150mcg) and T3 (20mcg) but I am using Erfa. Guest guest
Hi Lillian; A couple of months ago I was collecting a prescription for my eye drops and the pharmacist mentioned that I had not ordered an antinflamatory that was on my script for sometime. She drew a line through my repeat script and said that I would need to see the Doctor if I needed it again. On that basis I would keep collecting the thyroxine and find a place to donate it to. Guest guest
Thanks Jane. A bit of a cheek of the chemist. Looks like I will still have to get a prescription for the thyroxine then and get it filled out. Lilian
