Guest guest
Marilyn, we didn't experience a rash, but I have read quite a few posts here where others reported similar rashes. When I chelated my kids, I read the PDR/package insert for DMSA, and it did say that the patient should be monitored for signs of infection/immune supression. A rash/fever as discribed, may necessitate testing and proceeding more cautiously, slowly, with further chelation. This is something that needs evaluation by a doctor experienced in chelation. I would not be alarmed but I would call the doctor and delay any further chelation until you get a medical O.K. Best wishes, Beverly > Dear Group: > Last night, my daughter broke out in a bad rash. Guest guest
A rash can be a sign of detox. The body uses the liver, intestines, and lungs to carry toxins out of the body but when the liver, intestines, etc. get overloaded it pushes them out the skin. You want the toxins out so stopping the rash suppresses the detoxification process. You may want to cut back on the dosage to a level where the body can handle it without involving the skin. Don't want to overload the system by trying to detox too quickly. Most of the folks we're referring to on this list have comprommised systems and would thus tolerate less than others before the body employs the skin for detox. If epsom salt baths work for the individual in question, that helps with the detox process. Kaolin clay applied externally to the affected areas away from any orifices also helps pull out the toxins and relieve the itching. insert for DMSA, and it did say that the > patient should be monitored for signs of infection/immune > supression. Guest guest
Dear Meg, A friend at church recently had a child with a rash similar to what you described. She took him to the ped. & he said ringworm. It did not go away, so she went back & saw one of the older Dr.s in the practice. He walked right in & asked had the child been around any cats. They had. He said he hadn't seen that for a while but some type of reaction to cats??? Gave him Rx & it cleared up in about a week. Just a thought.... Tammy I. mom to 3 apraxia, 5 starts school in less than a week, 16, 20 still laundry impaired but we plan to treat that with the proper therapy soon!! >A couple of month's ago my daughter who is not on any supplement had the same >rash. I brought her to our ped. and he said it was ring worm and gave me a >cream to put on it. It didn't help and 2 weeks had past. I brought her back >and he said to go to a dermatologist. He took one look at the rash and knew >exactly what it was. For the life of me I can't remember the name but he gave >me a cream to put on it and it disappeared in 2 days. He said it is so >similar looking to ring worm it is often mis- diagnosed. You might want to >try a dermatologist to see if that's the case. Hope this helps. Guest guest
Hi everyone I woke up this morning with a couple of dots on my upper chest,in a couple of hours i had a rash all over my face ,scalp, chest, and back.It really scared me. I went to my onc. office i saw the nurse there and another onc {mine wasn't there} She said she thought if it was from the Gleevec it would have started a while ago I have been on Gleevec for 3 months. The doc. told me to take benadryll and call them in the morning. He also told me to skip the Gleevec today,Is that safe? Other than a little nausea once in a while and a little swelling around my eyes i don't have any other side affects.I'm worried that I might have to go off the Gleevec since I've been doing so well on it.Can someone give me some insight on rashes caused by Gleevec,[i didn,t eat anything different than i usually do.] I am really worried. Thanks Esther
Guest guest
It does sound like an allergic reaction of some sort...could be the gleevec..I guess he is having you skip to see if the rash clears over the hours..It is best to figure out what is going on. I have heard of some with some allergic reactions go off of the gleevec for a week or so to see if the symptoms cleared. One I know went back on but manged the allergic reaction but the other went off of gleevec and moved on to another treatment. The thing is - you have to be on gleevec for life and if the side effects not reasonable or there is an allergic reaction- you need to know. Going off it for the day or 2 even can help the dr discover this. I hope you are feeling better! Guest guest
Yes, I got the rash as well, only after I had been on Gleevec for a few months. It did not show up right away. My oncologist said it was not related to Gleevec, but clearly it was. When I took a short break a few months after, it disappeared competely. Guest guest
After thinking about the rash issue I did get a rash on my chest and down my stomach. It wasn't itchy or red...just felt like sand paper. It went away in about a month. I didn't do anything for it. In regards to doctors saying issues are not related to Gleevec, I don't believe that. I'm happy with my onc and know I'm getting the right treatment. However, when I started Gleevec, I asked him if I could tan. He said " yes " . Why didn't he tell me I wouldn't tan because of the c-kit enzyeme being inhibited??? I also asked about any side effects. He really didn't respond well to that question. He does come highly recommended from Cleveland Clinic. Thanks to 's input and super knowledge about CML and everyone else's input I have learned alot about CML. More than I would just talking with the onc. Pam snipandtip <no_reply > wrote: > > > > Yes, I got the rash as well, only after I had been on Gleevec for a few > months. It did not show up right away. Guest guest
Mine just comes and goes. Usually in the evening. It is bright red and splotchy. It grows up my chest to my throat in patches. It isn't bothersome, but if we are out in the evening I catch people looking at it. It sounds lame to say, it is a side effect of the medication I am on. Tammy _____ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of Lomsdalen Sent: Monday, March 23, 2009 3:06 PM Subject: [ ] Rash I know that it's a side effect of Gleevec, but a get a small red rash on my face that comes and goes. This time around, the rash has been here, going on 2 weeks. I never seem to have it when I go for my 6 week check ups with my Oncologist, and I'm wondering if anyone else gets this type of rash, and if so, is there anything you've used to help get rid of it faster?
