Guest guest
What courage! Hans .... I hoped he was not taking a negative view of a patient who was interested and informed about their own health. He then became very appologetic ... Guest guest
Brilliant! Well done you! Did you actually manage to get any of the tests? I always get my free t3 tested, the lab never say no because the doc writes on the form that I am taking t3. You may feel like tyou've done 10 rounds but you definately won that one!! xx > > Just thought I would share my experience and have a rant about my GP visit yesterday. Guest guest
Oh, nice one Han! The better I feel the angrier I get at these jumped up, god-complex, overpaid idiots! Everywhere you hear the same story! I've already written a couple of letters, one to the Embarassing Bodies website to ask why they seem to have to pick up the pieces for people who's GP's are incompetent. (Strangely, these people always seem to get better following consultations with private healthcare practioners who get lots of free publicity.) In 1974 I started my traing as a nurse, and I honestly think that the training we had then is better than the training some student doctors have now, never mind nurses. The old matron would be turning in her grave! Once again, well done for humbling this chump! A PS I had my first appointment with an ME nurse specialist yesterday, and she had no idea what dissicated thyroid was, and this is in the Endo dept. (She was very nice though!) > > Just thought I would share my experience and have a rant about my GP visit yesterday. Guest guest
Hi I agree, I started my SRN (as it was then) in 1971 and at least we were taught to listen to our patients and have respect! In my experience GP's no longer look at their patients just the computer screen! Guest guest
To help further this young man's medical education Han, I would write him a short letter so that he knows, in the future, exactly why his patients might be requesting those particular blood tests if they have the symptoms of hypothyroidism. If he takes the trouble to read it, he might just help save such patients a lot of unnecessary suffering. · Low iron/ferritin: http://www.thewayup.com/newsletters/081504.htm and http://www.ithyroid.com/iron.htm .. I also used the following article in our last TPA Newsletter http://www.femail.com.au/iron-levels-tony-pearce.htm · Low vitamin B12: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18655403 · Low vitamin D3: http://www.eje-online.org/cgi/content/abstract/113/3/329 and http://www.goodhormonehealth.com/VitaminD.pdf · Low magnesium: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC292768/pdf/jcinvest00264-0105.pdf · Low folate: http://www.clinchem.org/cgi/content/full/47/9/1738 and http://www.liebertonline.com/doi/abs/10.1089/thy.1999.9.1163 · Low copper/zinc:http://www.istanbul.edu.tr/ffdbiyo/current4/07%20Iham%20AM%C4%B0R.pdf and http://articles.webraydian.com/article1648-Role_of_Zinc_and_Copper_in_Effective_Thyroid_Function.html Luv - Sheila When I asked him to run some blood tests and listed the ones I wanted - e.g B12, Ferritin, zinc etc, he suggested sarcastically that if he gave me the form I could write the list myself!! I said I would happily do that, and that I hoped he was not taking a negative view of a patient who was interested and informed about their own health. He then became very appologetic and more humble! I came out feeling exhausted as if I had gone 10 rounds with whichever boxer is in vogue at the moment! just thought I would share this experience and give encouragement to anyone who needs it. Guest guest
Thank you Sheila - I will indeed do as you suggest - we can live in hope!
