Hi ,

Due to go for my 12 weekly blood test. Think i need a higher dose and was

wondering if a morning or afternoon test makes a difference. I have been on

levothoroxine for approx 18 months but still feel so tired, joint pains, hair

loss etc etc. started off on 25mc, then 50, 75, 100, 125 and then back dowwn to

100. Someone told me to get my blood test early morning as that would show up

low and doc would likely prescribe higher dose, is that right?

Thanks x

I don't take any thyroid medication for two days before a blood test then have

it mid day, then take my thyroid med. I take Erfa or Natural Dessicated Thyroid

as I had the same problems as you, it has taken me four years to get it sorted

out. I had terrible joint pains and couldn't walk, hair loss, very tired on

synthetic thyroxine, had blood tests, results was inflammatory arthritis, they

couldn't find a reason for it but I changed to NDT after suffering for a long

time and now have no joint pains at all and am really getting my health back. I

order this from an online pharmacy and haven't properly told my G.P. yet but

some people on this site do get their G.P.'s to prescribe it for them.

We usually

recommend not taking any thyroid hormone on the morning you have your blood

drawn, but take your hormone replacement with you and take it immediately

afterwards. While having your blood drawn for your thyroid function tests, ask

also to have your levels of ferritin, vitamin B12, vitamin D3, magnesium,

folate, copper and zinc tested too because if any of these show low in the

reference range, no amount of thyroid hormone is going to be properly utilised

at cellular level. You need quite a bit of blood for copper and zinc testing.

When you get the results, post them here, together with the reference range for

each test done and we will help with their interpretation because doctors have

a habit of telling their patients they don't have a problem if their results

appear ANYWHERE within the reference range. It matters whether they are at the

bottom, the middle or the top of the range.

Also, do the

Adrenal Questionnaire which you will find in the FILES section of this forum

(accessible from the Home Page in the Menu thyroid treatment

.. You might wish to get the 24 hour salivary adrenal profile done to see where

your DHEA and cortisol lie at four specific times during the day.

You may be a

candidate for the active thyroid hormone Tertroxin (T3) to be either added to

your T4 or taken on its own. You should insist that the doctor tests your free

T3, even though he might try to tell you that if your TSH and free T4 are

within the normal range, there is no need for fT3. There IS.

See the attached

document to see whether you could be suffering from another of the associated

conditions that go along with being hypothyroid that is stopping you from

getting well again.

Luv - Sheila
