Guest guest
Hi Hazel, it isn't really a case of " should " show a lower FT4 when treating with natural thyroid extract. This is generally what happens. The TF4 is often just above the middle of the range and the FT3 is often well into the upper third of the reference range. When taking natural thyroid extract, really, blood tests are pretty useless - you go by how you feel and treat and titrate your dose accordingly. You should not take any natural thyroid hormone before having your blood tested that morning, in fact, it is best not to take any for the previous 24 hours, otherwise, your thyroid function test could be flawed because the T3 peaks in the blood between 2 to 4 hours after taking it and therefore, could give a flawed reading. Doctors often have a dickey fit when they see the high level of FT3 and suppressed TSH and believe their patient has now become hyperthyroid and tell them to either lower the dose or to go back on to synthetic thyroxine - often causing many problems for the patient should they take their doctors advice. Luv - Sheila Hello all, I would be grateful if someone could tell me if it is correct that, when taking Armour, TFTs should show a lower FT4 level than when taking thyroxine, due to better uptake when on Armour? If so, if the FT4 level rises when on Armour, is that a sign that the person was doing better on thyroxine than on Armour? Many thanks. Hazel. avast! Antivirus: Outbound message clean.
