Guest guest
Hi Gillian, Sorry to hear you are not making any progress with your diet.Your GP should be ashamed of that comment. Anyway,I hope you wont be offended but I noticed by looking at your diet that it does seem very carbohydrate laden whilst at the same time appearing to be healthy.Do you think you could change to a more protein based diet? For instance: Breakfast-Poached eggs and smoked salmon Mid morning-Piece of fruit(apple, pear etc) Lunch-Vegetable soup(NO BREAD)handful of pumpkin seeds Dinner-River cobbler,broccoli,1 spoonful rice Supper-Yoghurt with a few brazil nuts. Some wafer thin ham if hungry Snacks-Dried fruit I eat like this most days and despite my Hypothyroidism my weight remains the same.If I eat cereals, bread, pasta etc I feel bloated right away.Thats not to say I never have bread or pasta.I do,but gluten free and no more than a couple of days a week.I saw a Nutritionist last Monday and she was impressed with my diet for the most part.I really feel it might help you to cut right back on the carbs. I wish you all the luck. This disease sucks. Peary P.s Definitely don't starve yourself because all that will happen is that your metabolism will slow down further. --- In thyroid treatment . Guest guest
Gillian, The Nobody ever came out of a concentration camp fat has been said before... It's pig ignorant and the reply is that many many people died in the camps. Only the very fittest and strongest survived and we know what they looked like when they came out. I've casually mentioned my polish jewish ancestry before, which makes them squirm a bit... -and so it should.... Don't put up with this nonsense from a person who is supposed to be qualified to help you. Also, if your doc was keeping up with current knowledge, he would know that there was a press release by the society for endocrinolgy, which was released a year ago saying that a tsh of over 4 puts you at a greater risk of heart problems. ( It's in the files under thyroid references.) x > > > I have various symptons for an underactive thyroid which I've seen a > doctor about and had blood tests done 4 times, last one 6 months ago. > My TSH has risen from 2.4 to 4.8 in the last year but keep getting told > this is within the normal range. Guest guest
hi Gillian, Run away from this doc fast!! Blood tests should be taking into account TOGETHER with the symptoms, her uncaring and unsympathetic attitude you will be getting nowhere. Most healthy folk have a TSH of 1.0 so a rising TSH such as yours should be ringing alarm bells loudly. Find another doc or insist on a referral to an endo of your choice- this is important as most endocrinologists specialise in diabetes and don't know enough about thyroid disorders. Sheila has a list of some who have been helpful to members in the past. Write to you doc with your referral request, list your symptoms- there is a list in the forum files to make sure you get everything. takes you basal temp for 5 days- it will probably be very low and list blood tests so far. putting it all in writing( don't forget to keep a copy) will often make a doc take it more seriously as it could bite back later if they are proved wrong. Ask for tests for ferritin B12 selenium zinc folate ( I think that's it) as if any are low it will reduce efficient thyroid functioning. Depression is a classic symptom of low T3- the active thyroid hormone- antidepressants will not help with this reason for depression. thyroid treatment From: gillianbaxter45@...Date: Fri, 18 Mar 2011 16:20:42 +0000Subject: "Starve yourself" I have various symptons for an underactive thyroid which I've seen a doctor about and had blood tests done 4 times, last one 6 months ago. My TSH has risen from 2.4 to 4.8 in the last year but keep getting told this is within the normal range. After research I know this is high. I was advised last week by a friends husband (a doctor) to go back and ask to be tested again which I did yesterday. Gave all my symptons again as well as other symptons I been gettig since my last visit. The most recent being I've been on the WW diet for 6 weeks and the weights just not shifting. She asked what I ate on a typical day which is cereal, salad sandwich, chicken pasta and a yoghurt with fruit throughout the day. She told me maybe I should "cut out the yoghurt" and "nobody ever came out of a concentration camp fat", she also said "someone people are fat and some aren't". I think at the time I was too shocked to say anything and it wasn't till I left that it actually registered she was basically telling me to lose weight I should starve myself! She also told me the fatigue was probably my body's way of telling me I need more sleep or a sign of depression. I'm not depressed but if they don't start listening to me I soon will be LOL I went to this doc because she's normally very good and the one I've seen previously just doesn't seem to take my symptons seriously. I've got the letter written to go to the practice asking for copies of all the results of my blood tests which I'm getting done on monday again and I'll post them on here and hopefully someone can help me make sense of them. I'm also going to ask to be referred to a specialist in this area. I'm sick of feeling like this every day and I'm going to take control! Wish me luck :-) Rant over LOL
