Guest guest
Ferritin level needs to be around 70 to 90 Lynne - you need to keep on with the iron supplements with high dose vitamin C. It can take quite a while for your ferritin level to start to rise, and this doesn't happen over a couple of days - it can take a couple of months or more to feel a difference. Luv - Sheila I had a very bad experience on T3 only. It was of course suggested to be because of iron or adrenals. Since I am on 25HC and temps are stable, I decided to try iron. I took iron on a Sunday and some on a Monday. I was also eating iron rich foods. Then I went to my doc on a Wednesday and she offered to take iron bloods. Sadly, I think the iron may have skewed my results as 1) I took supplemental iron with Vit C for two days and 2) I have NEVER EVER had such good haemoglobin in my life 3) My ferritin does not match up with the HG. Results: WBC 7.5 (3.6-11.0) HB: 14.2 (11.5-16.5) Platelets: 332 (150-400) Ferritin: 49 (5-148) Thoughts on these results?
Guest guest
" Your iron is still horribly low- should be at least 90, will doc prescribe supplements, or will you supplement yourself " ? - No she won't be prescribing supplements as before I saw the actual results, she said my iron was " excellent " and " perfect " . I can actually understand her thinking that, as I have read at lef.org that optimum HG is 14-15 for women. I just don't get WHY it was so optimal, for the first time in my life ever. It makes NO sense! Especially since you would think HG would be low in range with a ferritin of only 49 and I have never even hit a HG above 13 before! No wonder I feel into a severe anxious depression on T3 only, for which I have been on sleeping tablets for two weeks and am now on Setraline (an AD). My GP does not know I did a T3 only treatment, but since I am back on NTH and have hideously low T4 levels she is very sympathetic and tells me that I WILL feel better once my T4 comes up; as it was only 2.4 (12-22) at last test (on T3 only of course) and I had to go off T3 on the 23rd, thus leaving my poor body with practically no T4 for conversion. I plan to stay on Setraline only for a very short time until my levels come up. I know it reduces thyroid hormones and messes with the adrenals, but for me, I need it right now as an emergency tool, until my levels come up. Sheila - How does one take iron? I find the timing of it confusing. One hour before NTH yes, but can it be taken with HC? Also, is one hour before a meal containing calcium food such as a glass of milk okay? Can it be taken on an empty stomach? I don't see how I would be able to take it otherwise....
Guest guest
Hi Lynne, you take iron supplements at least 4 hours away from all thyroid hormone replacement in the same way you do calcium. Best to take it with your evening meal or supper, before you go to bed to be safe. You take NDT an hour before food. Iron is best taken with food. Luv - sheila Sheila - How does one take iron? Guest guest
So can iron be taken with a glass of milk then or would that interfere?
Guest guest
Yes, iron can be taken with a glass of milk at that time. Luv - Sheila So can iron be taken with a glass of milk then or would that interfere?
