Guest guest
Dear Sheila and everyone, just thought I would let you know about the results of the first large randomised trial investigating timing of intake of Levothyroxine tablets. When taken at bedtime there is a decrease in thyrotropin levels, an increase in free T4 level and an increase in total T3 level compared to morning intake. The results appear in last weeks Pharmaceutical Journal and go on to say that clinicians should inform patients about the possibility of taking Levothyroxine at bedtime. The British National Formulary states that it should preferably be taken before breakfast in the morning. As a pharmacist I will definately be informing my patients about this and I hope that other pharmacists will too. Take care all, Jo
