Guest guest
I know this a rare occurrence but I now have the result for the NHS Salivary test. I'm not sure anyone can advise me but any thoughts, input would be great. The first tests done in hospital last August were lost by the lab and I had to repeat it at home. Also I was asked to do tests at following times 8am,10am,12 noon, 2pm,4pm and 10pm. and write these times on the relevant tubes which I did but it seems the labs can't copy this report accurately and have managed to omit one of the test results. Morning 12.7 nmol/l (normal range 5-46 nmol/l) 11.00am 11.1 2.00pm 9.00 4.00pm 1.4 midnight <0.8 ACTH <5ng/l Endo comment in letter - Essentially these result indicate adequate cortisol response. Really!!! They look very low to me as did my last results from Genova which prompted the endo to request this. I'm so mad this morning looking at this and I am using up what little cortisol I have. errrrrr. I'll be on the phone soon to ask about the inaccuracies in testing and reporting and why this is seen as adequate. I have wasted so much time and effort on these appointments that I'm going to kick the NHS into touch and sort it out myself else where. Guest guest
The problem with trying to interpret these results is that with cortisol secretion, there is a different reference range for 8.0a.m. 12 Noon, 4.00p.m. and last thing at night. You cannot use the normal range of 5-46 that you have been given for the morning range to check the other results for the rest of the day. You need to find what the reference range is for the others, and especially the one at midnight Judy. Luv - Sheila I know this a rare occurrence but I now have the result for the NHS Salivary test. Guest guest
Thanks Sheila, I will ring the labs and ask them. It's just a complete waste of time if they don't give the full information. The midnight one was actually 10 pm. Guest guest
Judy - read the following about the circadian rhythm of cortisol and why you need to get the correct reference range for the different times you were tested http://www.aeron.com/new_page_27.htm Thanks Sheila, I will ring the labs and ask them. Guest guest
I don't think they do generally. I'm at Wythenshawe Hospital, Manchester, where some research into salivary test is being done. I didn't know this until the endo mentioned it when I showed him my Genova salivary test results. To be honest I'm getting nowhere there and blood serum cortisol curve is apparently normal.
