Guest guest
Hi fellow Thyroidians, I'm off to see a new private doctor (who shall remain nameless) next Tuesday and I am wondering if there is anything I should make a point of asking about? Just to recap...I have been unwell for a decade.Have tried various approaches including thyroxine, natural thyroid/T3 etc..I also have adrenal issues and have taken H/C and an abundance of vitamins and minerals.I am still symptomatic.. Freezing, knackered, awful hair, dry skin, muscle stiffness and much more besides.I would like to try purified thyroxine on a trial basis but perhaps that is barking up the wrong tree! Is there a different approach I should be taking? Instead of that elusive thyroid hormone miracle should I concentrate on my gut issues and/or heavy metal chelation? Any tests I should specifically request? Anything new I should ask? Would appreciate any help. Kind regards, Peary
Guest guest
Hi Peary, Well lets hope the doctor knows his stuff - Can't think of anything new you could be asking, but I would list your symptoms and what you have taken on paper, so that he can see where you have been and doesn't waste time going over old ground and meds. Best of luck! x > > > Hi fellow Thyroidians, > > I'm off to see a new private doctor (who shall remain nameless) next > Tuesday and I am wondering if there is anything I should make a point of > asking about? > > Just to recap...I have been unwell for a decade.Have tried various > approaches including thyroxine, natural thyroid/T3 etc..I also have > adrenal issues and have taken H/C and an abundance of vitamins and > minerals.I am still symptomatic.. Guest guest
hi peary if it were me i would definitely concentrate a bit on gut issues ...don't know specifically what yours are, but gut is said to be our second brain and apart from being important for thyroid hormones, it is also the place where many neurotransmitters are produced (more so that in the brain). http://www.psyking.net/id36.htm http://altmedangel.com/gutbrain.htm sending you good vibes for next tuesday trish > > > Hi fellow Thyroidians, > > I'm off to see a new private doctor (who shall remain nameless) next > Tuesday and I am wondering if there is anything I should make a point of > asking about? >
Guest guest
what does the private dr specialise in? the gut can cause problems, apparently, have you read: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Stress-Effect-Discover-Connection-Between/dp/1583331816/\ ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8 & s=books & qid=1298730037 & sr=8-1 or the book that's been discussed on here recently, the one by datis kharazian (sp) ? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Still-Thyroid-Symptoms-Tests-Normal/dp/1600376703/ref=sr\ _1_1?ie=UTF8 & qid=1298730125 & sr=1-1 have you looked at gluten intolerance, candida etc? I keep going on about these enzymes lately (sorry) but have you considered digestive enzymes? have you gone to the files section and done the hertoghe questionnaire to see what else may be wrong ? thyroid treatment/files C > > > > Is there a different approach I should be taking? Guest guest
Hi The doctor specializes in Nutritional Medicine so perhaps I should be looking more towards that side of things now.I've tried with the thyroid replacements but there is obviously a problem somewhere in terms of absorption/getting into the tissues etc.. I have read the book by Datis Kharrazian. It really is excellent but a bit of a minefield at the same time! Many of the tests he mentions such as TH-1/TH-2, Cytokines etc probably are unavailable or largely unknown to practitioners here.I may be wrong! I hope I am because I would like these tests done. I already follow a gluten free diet but am slack on the candida front.I may ask to be tested for that and I will ask the Dr about the digestive enzymes. Thanks Peary >> what does the private dr specialise in?> > the gut can cause problems, apparently, have you read: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Stress-Effect-Discover-Connection-Between/dp/1583331816/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8 & s=books & qid=1298730037 & sr=8-1> > or the book that's been discussed on here recently, the one by datis kharazian (sp) ? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Still-Thyroid-Symptoms-Tests-Normal/dp/1600376703/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8 & qid=1298730125 & sr=1-1> > have you looked at gluten intolerance, candida etc? Guest guest
Hi Trish & , Thank you for your helpful replies and the links. I have decided to explore my gut issues but am hoping at the same time that this doctor will also prescribe thyroid meds for me. One other thing worries me.I have seen 2 other private doctors(over a 10 yr period)The last one (Dr H) Yes him! LOL being 3yrs ago.So I was going to bring along my blood tests from then but I'm not sure if that is the right move.Perhaps this new doctor will be daunted by it and feel a bit out of his depth! What do you think? Should I keep quiet and start afresh at the risk of going over old ground? The last thing I want is for him to think I'm constantly flitting from doctor to doctor obsessing over my health. Any thoughts? An indecisive Peary>> > > hi peary> > if it were me i would definitely concentrate a bit on gut issues ...don't know specifically what yours are, but gut is said to be our second brain and apart from being important for thyroid hormones, it is also the place where many neurotransmitters are produced (more so that in the brain).> > http://www.psyking.net/id36.htm> > http://altmedangel.com/gutbrain.htm> > sending you good vibes for next Tuesday
Guest guest
have you read the book by Dr Hyman - ultrametabolism? I found that pretty helpful hope the new dr helps you chris
Guest guest
are you going to prepare a precis of what your symptoms are, how long you've had them and what solutions you've been prescribed? i don't know what the blood tests were from three years ago...why would you think the new doc might feel out of his depth? i would think that the new doc would want an up to date view of your bio-chemistry...(the three year old tests may or may not be relevant at some point for comparative purposes). i know how important this appointment is for you ....take some deep breaths as they will help keep you calm. also, i don't think seeing two docs in a ten year period exactly qualifies for " flitting " trish
Guest guest
Hi Peary Go to our FILES section accessible from the Home Page of this forum and scroll down to the CANDIDA folder and read all the information available there - there's a lot. Hopefully, you will find this of great help. Luv - Sheila I already follow a gluten free diet but am slack on the candida front.I may ask to be tested for that and I will ask the Dr about the digestive enzymes. __
Guest guest
I Peary, butting in here, but I doubt very much that tests from 3 years ago will help your new doctor. I would keep quiet about the other doctors and let your new doctor think you have chosen him because you feel he is the best one available and start afresh, even if it does mean going over old ground. It might help him if you wrote down a bit about your medical history, your symptoms and signs, whether there is anybody in your family with an immune or thyroid disease etc. Go to our FILES section and scroll down to NHS Information and in there you will find a document 'First Visit to Endocrinologist' which gives some good tips etc for visiting any doctor.
