Guest guest
When starting to supplement your adrenals, it is recommended you stop all thyroid hormone replacement (either synthetic or natural) for 7 days and just take a supplement such as Nutri Adrenal Extra for those 7 days (taking one tablet with breakfast), and then on the 8th day, increase your NAE by one tablet, taking this one with your lunch, and add back your thyroid hormone replacement in the same dose you were taking before. You can carry on taking the other supplements and you especially need large doses of vitamin C (4/5000mgs daily), plus Selenium 200mcgs daily and zinc (essential for conversion of T4 to the active T3). You should carry on increasing your NDT by one tablet every 2 weeks or so until you find your symptoms have diminished. However, if you get up to 6 tablets of NAE daily (it is recommended you go no higher) then it may be that you need a course of hydrocortisone. If you decide at any time to get the 24 hour salivary adrenal profile done, you must stop the NAE for at least 2 weeks before the test is done. Luv - Sheila > Thank you for your opinion Judith. So how do I go about stopping the NDT? Do I just stop the NDT completely and not take anything except the adrenal supplements and Nutri Thyroid + the hundreds of other supplements etc. How long do I wait before restarting my NDT? How do I restart my NDT, as I did the first time following the TPA guidelines? How do I know when I am ready to start the NDT again? Should I perhaps do a saliva test if I think I am ready to start again? I have been treating my adrenals for about 3 months now, any idea of an average healing time? Many thanks again.... Guest guest
Hi, Shelia, your recommendations are exactly what I have been doing for the last three months and when I started my blood pressure went up when I stood up and my adrenal temperature tests were ok but now after having followed TPA & Peatfield instructions I find that my temp. and lowered blood pressure on standing are indicative of more adrenal fatigue. It's taken me 3 months approx. to work up to NDT 2.5gr (and I haven't finished increasing yet) but I am now beginning to feel some of the old hypothyroid symptoms slightly returning. If I stop all thyroid hormones now, how long should I stay off them, besides which, surely after a week or ten days I need to be on some sort of thyroid hormones. When you consider that I started NAX and then started NDT 10 days later at 1/2grain and worked my way up slowly following instructions then surely that is less of a strain on the adrenals than had I restarted 100mcg levothyroxine(which was what I was on before)all in one go. Get what I mean? (I'm not always easy to understand haha.) Oh and I've been on Selenium and Zinc for donkeys years and am working on my ferritin and am taking 5000mg Vit C and all the recommended stuff which brings me up to about 30 tablets a day not counting my NDT. (Who needs food, haha.) thanks for your help...
Guest guest
Did you actually increase the Nutri Adrenal Extra every 10 days to 2 weeks, taking half your dose with breakfast and the other half with lunch. You should increase in this way (whilst taking your thyroid hormone replacement) until your symptoms go away. If you are still suffering with symptoms after you get up to 6 tablets of NEA daily, then this is an indication that you need a course of hydrocortisone. If you didn't keep increasing the NAE in this way, then start now, and do Dr Rinds Temperature Graph http://www.drrind.com/therapies/metabolic-temperature-graph Also, read Dr Peatfield's paper about the adrenal/thyroid connection and you will see why it is important to check out adrenal fatigue before starting thyroid hormone replacement http://www.tpa-uk.org.uk/thyroid_adrenal_dysfunction.pdf Check also the following home tests: Test 1: Take and compare two blood pressure readings—one while lying down and one while standing. Rest for five minutes in recumbent position (lying down) before taking the reading. Stand up and immediately take the blood pressure again. If the blood pressure is lower after standing, suspect reduced adrenal gland function. The degree to which the blood pressure drops while standing is often proportionate to the degree of hypoadrenalism. (Normal adrenal function will elevate your BP on the standing reading in order to push blood to the brain.) Test 2: Another test uses the eyes. From the side (not the front), shine a bright light like a flashlight or penlight towards your pupils and hold it for about a minute. Carefully observe the pupil. With healthy adrenals, your pupils will constrict, and will stay small the entire time you shine the light from the side. In adrenal fatigue, the pupil will get small, but it will soon enlarge again or obviously flutter in its attempt to stay constricted. Test 3: Are you very sensitive to bright light? That could be a sign of adrenal fatigue. And this can also be true if you have searing headaches along with the sensitivity. Test 4: You can determine your thyroid and adrenal status by following Dr. Rind with a temperature graph. You simply take your temp 3 times a day, starting three hours after you wake up, and every three hours after that, to equal three temps. (If you have eaten or exercised right before it’s time to take your temp, wait 20 more minutes.) Then average them for that day. Do this for several days. If your averaged temp is fluctuating from day to day more than .2, you need adrenal support. If it is fluctuating but overall low, you need more adrenal support and thyroid. If it is fluctuating but averaging 98.6, you just need adrenal support. If it is steady but low, you need more thyroid and adrenals are likely fine. (We note that mercury thermometers are the most accurate.) Guest guest
See how you get on without your NDT for a while and just taking the Nutri Adrenal Extra - you might have overdone the increases in NDT. You should only increase your natural desiccated thyroid if you still have symptoms - there is no particular dosage you should be aiming for. Luv - Sheila Hi Sheila, Yes I did increase the Nutri Adrenal Extra as you describe and am up to 5 a day.I was feeling pretty good but started to go back again and have been failing on all the adrenal home tests for several days. Judith suggested I should stop my NTD and start again after 10 days so I didn't take my 1 grain this afternoon and, would you believe it, I have just taken my blood pressure laying down and then standing up and for the first time in days it has gone UP when I stand. That does seem to point to the adrenals not being able to cope with 2.5 grains of NTD. What do you suggest, that I do as Judith suggests and start again from scratch going very slowly?
