Try taking some magnesium citrate (about 300 - 500 mg) and see if this helps. - Are you taking T4 only (Levothyroxine) or a combination of T4/T3 ? best wishes,
Guest guest
Hi , I am on 3 grains of `ERFA...I already take 400mg magnesium at night and as I take 6 NAX there is magnesium in that too...have been on 3 grains for over a month...could it be that i need to try to go up quarter grain? also have read it can be lack of potassium but am confused as I thought potassium is bad for adrenals so not sure whether to supplement? Guest guest
Hi Fliss, I would cut down the magnesium - your mag/cal ratio is probably out of syn out. Best wishes Mandy
Guest guest
Sorry Fliss forgot the link http://www.health-science-spirit.com/magnesiumchloride.html .........................while a high magnesium intake causes calcium to go out of the tissues into the bones. Fliss Hi Fliss, I'm sorry, but without knowing your current TFT results and mineral or vitamin levels, there is no way for me to know whether you need more or less of anything L . Aches and pains can signify too much as well as too little. Did you feel better when you were on half a grain or ΒΌ grain less? If so - it takes quite a few weeks for thyroid levels to settle and to feel overdosed... but it could equally be that you still need some more.... or that you are low in Vit D3, or B12, or ferritin.... If things don't feel right, you should ask your doc for some tests. Vit D3 deficiency can lead to muscle and bone pain, as does a lack of B12.... ....also have read it can be lack of potassium but am confused as I thought potassium is bad foradrenals so not sure whether to supplement?I would be extremely cautious about supplementing potassium. Potassium is neither good nor bad β the right amount is vital for our wellbeing, but we usually get all we need from our diet and rarely need to supplement that. Potassium works in unison with sodium and both parameters are regulated by mineralcorticoids -mostly aldosterone- which is produced by the adrenal glands. To get the electrolytes (sodium & potassium) out of synch by unnecessarily supplementing potassium could cause serious trouble. Certain kidney condition or 's disease can get the electrolytes out of kilter but normally one shouldn't need to supplement extra potassium. With best wishes
Guest guest
Fliss, how are your Vitamin D3 levels? Magnesium has to be balanced with potassium, calcium and D3. Lack of ....Vitamin D3 alone can cause muscle aches. I stopped my D3 for 6 days just to see if this was true and I had more than my share of muscle aches. Once I started again, they went away... As far as the Magnesium, don't worry about taking too much of that, 400- 600 mgs a day is a good normal dosage....mag is overlooked too much of the time.....I have found that mag needs to be fresh though. Buying large quantities of it to save money isn't the way to go. Buying a fresh bottle every 2 months or so works best. Cheers, JOT
Guest guest
Might be a sign you need to raise your dose of thyroid meds Fliss. If this was me, I would give it a go to see if that does the trick. Are your levels of ferritin, B12, D3, magnesium, folate, copper and zinc where they should be in the reference range. Any chance you could have mercury poisoning through amalgam fillings or you are suffering from systemic candidiasis. If you are not sure, check these out to see if any one of these being low might be stopping the thyroid hormone from being fully absorbed at the cellular level. A lack of T3 was the cause of my severe pains. Luv - Sheila I have just started getting night time muscle aches, in my legs and hands and hips...any idea why this could be? Guest guest
Could it be hyperparathyroid? Have you had regular calcium blood tests and any symptoms of hyperparathyroidism? www.parathyroid.com I have only just been ( almost) dxed with HPT after 4 long years of pain and suffering after starting thyroid meds in 2006. HPT can be assoc with Hashimotos and there are many pubmed references re how starting the treatment for Hashis 'unmasks' the hyperparathyroid. I had a thyroid and parathyroid ultrasound last week that spotted my tumour near the collarbone. It would be at least 10 years old which matches my symptoms... Starting thyroid meds made me worse. This is why. Re. regular calciums tests.. I have had 19 tests in the last 4 years and more than half were 'normal'. ( 7 abnormal) This is a huge symptom as it is never normal to have a fluctuating level of calcium. The bone pain is a big symptom. Mine is quite severe now...which tends to happen near the final stages of dx. Just an idea... Good luck. It was my GP that discovered this. Normal calcium blood tests with added PTH test at the same test each time. Anyone any age can have HPT.
