Guest guest
Some doctors actually recommend taking a 'thyroid hormone replacement holiday' - and I see nothing wrong in that. On a couple of occasions I have found too much thyroid hormone coursing through my body and felt dreadful. On both occasions, Dr Peatfield told me to stop taking all thyroid hormone replacements. The first time, I was off for 23 days (I felt wonderful) but then slowly, hypothyroid symptoms started to appear again, so I started back on my Armour (natural thyroid extract). The second time, I was off Armour for 2 weeks before I started to show some symptoms again. Each time I was off thyroid meds though I did feel absolutely great, even believing I had grown a new thyroid which would continue to work for the rest of my life. However, in your case, it could be that once you have boosted your adrenals sufficiently, you might find you don't need thyroid medication, but all you can do is to wait and see. Are you taking any adrenal support at all at the moment or waiting to get a referral to the hospital for a short synacthen test? Luv - Sheila But is it foolish to stop thyroid replacement altogether? I've been taking 125mg thyroxine a day for the last few years. I just feel so much better without it! Georgie
Guest guest
I'm taking NAE twice a day, plus liquorice, ginseng, and vit c. I don't know if it's making any difference. I'm planning to stop the NAE once I've been referred for the SST, so as not to skew the result. I wouldn't say I feel wonderful, but definitely my hypo symptoms have lessened and I feel more 'myself' than I have for a long time. I would love to think that I didn't have to take any thyroid replacement, but I'm not going to get my hopes up. I still feel exhausted and drained most of the time. Isn't it funny how your reference point for 'wellness' changes after a few years of being ill? Just being able to get out of bed without hurting seems good to me these days!
