Guest guest
I had been treating myself with NAX for my adrenals and this made me feel alot better, I was also going to try treating myself with thyroxine but I went to a different hosp. They said stop the NAX in January and to start taking 10mg hydrocortisol. I've then had to wait for a long synacthen test and MRI for pituitary gland, the results have just come back negative. The results of test are basal cortisol was 209 and at 60 mins, it was 786. The 24 hr cortisol was 2229 nmol/L. This indicates I have no adrenal insufficiency. ACTH is 15.7 ng/L. And my TSH is 7.88 and free T4 of 10.7. The hosp. as asked my GP to give me Levothyroxine 25 mcg. And to stop the hydrocortisone. Can you post the reference ranges for each of these tests please so we can see whether the results are 'negative' or not. Also, were you still taking the Nutri Adrenal Extra and/or Cortisol at the time of your testing, if so, your cortisol results would be seriously flawed. I was previously taking 4 NAX a day and felt better taking these than the hydrocortisone. My questions are should I build up again with the NAX before taking the Levothyroxine and when will I feel any difference in my symptoms when I start taking thyroxine. If this was me, I would definitely start on NEA again for at least 7 days before starting the levothyroxine and start taking the LevoT on the 8th day, increasing the Nutri Adrenal Extra until you start to feel better again. We are all different, so can't say how long it will take you to start feeling well. Keep increasing the NAE by one tablet every 10 days to 2 weeks until you feel better. If no better after taking 6 tablets daily, this is usually an indication you might need something stronger. Have you thought about Isocort. Also my T4 of 10.7 does this sound o.k I'm not sure if its high, low or average. Always post the reference ranges because different hospital laboratories have different 'kits' and reference ranges change depending upon the 'kit' being used. However, I can tell you that a free T4 of 10.7 is right down there at the bottom of the range. For anybody not on thyroid hormone replacement, the level of free T4 should be just above the middle of the ref. range. Also your TSH is far too high. TSH is a hormone secreted by the pituitary gland which is secreted automatically when it recognises that there is insufficient levels of T3 and T4 being secreted by the thyroid gland. Your pituitary is having to work hard to do this, and so the level goes higher the more work it has to do. I have read that Armour is better to take, would I be better off trying to buy this. I would appreaciate any advice many thanks June Natural thyroid extract is more often than not better than just taking levothyroxine (T4) because T4 is a mainly inactive hormone that has to convert through the liver, kidneys, skin, brain to the active thyroid hormone T3. it is T3 our body needs to make every cell in our body and brain function. For those who are good 'converters' they do fine on T4 only, but you need to find out first whether this would work for you. However, having said that, if you can afford it, you might find you get greater benefit from the natural thyroid hormone extract because it contains all the thyroid hormones T4, T3, T2, T1 and calcitonin for the bones. You can find the Internet Pharmacies we recommend where you can buy the different brands of desiccated thyroid, without prescription. However, always read as much information as you possibly can before embarking on a road of self treatment, reading especially the document 'How to Use Natural Thyroid Extract' which you will find in the FILES section entitled 'Natural Thyroid Extract' Luv - Sheila
Guest guest
Perhaps there is something in the NAX that you are lacking in your body? Maybe , going by your results, it's not cortisol you're lacking (it seems you may have enough of this)? There are other adrenal hormones - DHEA, aldosterone, adrenaline, etc etc - perhaps you are feeling the benefit of NAX because of that? just a thought. Not to complicate matters but if you look in the files section, you'll see a Dr Hertoghe's questionnaire, which might indicate what else you're lacking. Apparently the body'll shunt production away from other adrenal hormones to cortisol if needed, at the expense of other hormones? google progesterone steal i also read once that a low saliva cortisol can be present despite normal urinary free cortisol, because the body is using up the cortisol quickly. chris > I was previously taking 4 NAX a day and felt better taking these than the hydrocortisone. Guest guest
Hi Pat You shouldn't need to take other meds to supress the reaction the the thyroid meds... that's just sillyness on the part of the doctor.... Some of the thyroid meds contain lactose and acacia - if you're allergic to pollen apparantly the acacia isn't good..... similarly with the lactose... Have you tried different brands? How about the natural thyroid meds.... Something will work for you but you will need to experiment...... Prednisolone is a bit drastic though...!! x > > It was because of the instruction 'take in one dose before breakfast' that I was ill for so long. It's like it's written in stone! > > I get an allergic type reaction to thryoxine and can only take 25mcg at one time > OMG - Why did I listen to him? > > >
