Guest guest
I'm curious - how is the 3mg working? Still hard to go to sleep? You're obviously researching it, so perhaps go up .5 to 1 mg and see if it helps. I did see where in studies, in a brief search, kids over age 5 were given 5mg. And I think I found the site you mentioned too, the 2.5 to 10mg dosages. Anyway - I think what I would do is go up by .5 for a week, then another .5 (if .5 is easy to do? else I guess 1 mg) We haven't tried it (yet) but I do have a bottle of sublingual melatonin on hand just in case. Keep us updated! > > Ok, another question…I have been giving my 10 year old daughter 3 mg of > Melatonin. I thought that was the maximum dosage that I can give. Guest guest
The 3 mg is not working. The pills I have are pretty small, and hard to split even in half. The pills are 3 mg pills. I gave her one last night at about 8:30; she went to bed at about 9:30, and was still up at 10:30, so I gave her another one. So she had 6 mg in total. Am I completely irresponsible by upping it so much? Re: melatonin question I'm curious - how is the 3mg working? Still hard to go to sleep? Guest guest
Just my thoughts, certainly no expert! Since there are studies on melatonin use in children and some did give 6 mg or more (some less, etc.), what I have briefly read here/there seems to show it's safe. How is the 6mg working? I think I'd try it a few days, research about trying higher. But, like you said, I did see 10mg mentioned. I wonder if it depends on the person and their " problems " as the participants in studies varied with diagnoses/disorders, disabilities, etc. I mean, there was quite a mix of disabilities taking the same amount. Anyway, didn't see anything ever mentioned as to " too much " except that a family physician might think the dosage " high. " As always, keep reading! And mention it to her doctor/psych or even pharmacist to see what their thoughts are. Are you watching what she eats/drinks in the afternoon/evening so far as something might be contributing to her staying up? I have 3 sons, 2 are " night owls " and the other is more a " day person " , i.e., always asleep before the other 2. My night owls have been that way since birth it seems! Just got worse during the teen years, sigh! > > The 3 mg is not working. The pills I have are pretty small, and hard to > split even in half. The pills are 3 mg pills. Guest guest
I suffer with difficulty getting to sleep and then staying asleep for more than two hours at a time and I am thinking of taking Melatonin, and from the posts on here it sounds like it can be useful. Is melatonin safe to take with thyroid problems? I dont know where I heard/read that it may present problems for people who have autoimmune disease. I would be grateful for any info on this please. Thanks Han
