T3

is the ACTIVE thyroid hormone and it has a very short half life. It peaks in

the blood a couple of hours after taking it and some people are particularly

sensitive to this. Because of it's short half life, it also starts to lose it's

effect after arouond6 hours and you can feel yourself going into an afternoon

'slump', so spreading it out by taking it twice a day avoids that feeling and

keeps you going. It is up to each individual to find out what works for them.

Don't assume that just because your friend takes her T3 once a day and it works

for her, that it will work for you Margaret. Some people have found that they

need to take their T3 3 or 4 times a day, others all in one go in a morning.

Thyroxine

on the other hand has a very long half life and doesn't completely leave the

body until after 6 weeks or so so you can take your daily dose in one go, and

some doctors believe you can take your dose once a week.

I

think your dose of 10mcgs T3 daily is a very small dose and you may well not

feel very much effect until you increase your dose and yes, it is always wise

to ensure your adrenals are able to cope with thyroid hormone replacement so I

would definitely start Nutri Adrenal Extra to be on the safe side.

I have been taking T3, prescribed by my GP for a couple of months now. I

started on 5mcg and now I am on 10mcg. These pills as you are probably aware

are very small and dividing a 20mcg pill into two is bad enough but any more is

nigh on impossible. I am therefore asking whether it is necessary to take the

10mcg in two doses during the day and why that is. Why doesn't the patient

information leaflet mention that, or my GP??? A friend of mine is taking her T3

in one dose in the morning and she does suffer tiredness as the day goes on.

Her GP is on a learning curve with this medication I might add.
