Guest guest
Hi again, I have another 'weird' thing to report. I've just been diagnosed with a rather bizarre condition and it is apparently linked to hypothyroidism in some way, but I'm not sure how??? Does anyone else here suffer from Dermographica? Read on for more info & see the link for photogpraphs of others with the same condition. About 2 weeks ago, I woke up and innocently looked in the mirror and got a bit of a shock. I had two raised white lines that ran down the left side of my face. The best way to describe them is that they looked like veins and they 'popped' out from under the skin, although they weren't actually veins at all. I saw two doctors (one was a surgeon who specialised in skin) and they both diagnosed the same thing - Dermographism (also known as Dermographica). They said the lines are supposed to be quite itchy, but it is strange because I did not suffer from any itchy sensations at all. The lines just appeared! Apparently the lines were caused by a reaction to something that had come in contact with my skin. It apparently causes a histamine reaction and cuts off the blood supply to that particular strip of skin. Weird, huh? The doc told me it was ok if it only happened once, but he wouldn't be happy if it happened again. Well guess what? It has happened again on two other occasions, but not to the same degree as it did the first time it occurred. It was relatively mild the other two times it occurred. On the second and third occasions I had fine white lines on my face (some were a tiny bit raised and others weren't raised at all). It looked like I had fine, white bleached lines running down my face. I have a feeling it might have been caused by a new pillowslip I have been using (I laundered it prior to using the new item). I think I am having some sort of reaction to the stitching, but I am only guessing because I can't think of anything else that would cause white lines to appear on my face. By the way, they aren't indentations. They looked 'bleached' and they only last for a few hours. I've yet to tell the doctor that the lines appeared a second and third time. Have a look at these photographs. My 'first' lines resembled those in the 'hello' and 'peace sign' pics. My lines stuck out from the skin in much the same way as those in the photographs. http://www.google.com.au/images?hl=en & client=firefox-a & hs=ZLK & rls=org.mozilla:en\ -GB:official & prmd=ivns & um=1 & ie=UTF-8 & source=og & sa=N & tab=wi & biw=1280 & bih=783 & q=de\ rmographism & tbs=isch:1 Anyhow, I guess it is yet another bizarre thing to add to my list. Dermographica, Persistent Migraine Aura since April 2010, etc etc. Does anyone else on the forum suffer from Dermographism or know anything else about it??? Anyone know WHY there is a link between Dermographica and thyroid issues??? The whole thing is truly bizarre. P
