Guest guest
Dorothy, Last year your TSH was higher than it should be, did you increase your dose or are you still struggling on the same dose and hoping it will come right by some miracle? If you're on Levothyroxine, your tsh should be below 1 and the free t4 levels need to be towards the top, or just over the top of the range.... (according to prof Toft). Thyroxine best taken at night, 50 mcg is NOT a full replacement dose. Many people do fine on it, but you have to take enough, A full replacement dose is more like 125/ 150 mcg. How are your Ferritin, Folate, B12, D3 levels? If these are low you can't use the thyroid meds. Are you taking selenium to help you to convert? How about Vitamin C to help your adrenals which will be working overtime? Can you post your latest test results and we#ll be able to see where you are. Chances are they won't have teated the free t3, but the TSH and T4 would be a starting point. Have you had the thyroid antibodies tested? Self treating with armour is an option, which many of us have taken, but not before we've tried all the options. Levothyroxine works well for 86% of people but you have to be on the right amount and have plentiful stores of all the vits and minerals. . > > July a year ago I posted on this site for advice. I had asked the nurse to test for T3 instead of just the usual TSH & she told me it was all in the one test. It wasn't. Advice given here was to go back & get them to test & then post results here. Guest guest
Thankyou for replying! I'm feeling desperate atm & just want to get this sorted once & for all. According to the receptionist whom I phoned 1st thing, the printed copy of tests could be up to £56. However, she did give me them orally & was more helpful than the nurse I had contact with yesterday. They tested CRP (4) last year & apart from that only TSH has ever been done even though the nurse told me they had done T4 & T3. I am now armed with alot of info & am ready to go into the GP next Monday to ask for those additional blood tests & will by then have this weeks results though I'll be surprised if anything other than TSH has been done. My dose was not increased last year but I don't think at this stage I care as I'm going to try NDT one way or another. I've also phoned xxxxx Clinic in Belfast & the receptionist there said xxxxxxxxxx will prescribe 'porcine' capsules & has in the past ordered armour thyroid for patients so I will go see him if my GP refuses further blood tests & is not NDT friendly - although I've no doubt that route will be expensive - however money means nothing if you don't have your health & I would prefer to be treated under guidance. Will post results as soon as I have them - here's hoping there's light at the end of the tunnel! Guest guest
Dorothy, No idea why the printed copy would cost more than the tests themselves.... maybe you'd be better off having private tests which you arrange yourself... details in the files. The TSH is not enough to diagnose and treat hypothyroidism. Your doctor is just playing at treating you. If you are determined to try armour then the files give details of where you can purchase it. I've bought from Value in the past and they've been fine. If you haven't sorted any issues with B12, D3, Ferritin and folate levels, don't expect it to work any better than the thyroxine though. In fact, if you have any adrenal insufficiencies due to being under treated for so long, it could make you feel much worse. If I was in your shoes, the first thing I would buy would be a complete set of thyroid tests so I could have a base starting point. The desperation is because you feel rough and nothing is happening.... how can it on the same meds? If you rush it without checking everthing else, you may end up feeling just as bad but be poorer. It is hard, but you really have to be thorough and methodical. Have you thought about keeping a temperature chart as per doctorrind.com? It's a really useful tool and can nhelp if you have adrenal problems too! . > > Thankyou for replying! Guest guest
Dorothy, read the information here about accessing information in your medical records http://www.nhs.uk/chq/pages/1309.aspx?categoryid=68 & subcategoryid=160 .. Read here also about the fees chargeable http://www.nhs.uk/chq/Pages/fees-for-accessing-medical-or-health-records.aspx where it shows that the receptionist is way, way wrong in charging £56 for a printed copy. They are FREE OF CHARGE if you just want to see them where you can write these down yourself together with the reference range, and if you want a paper copy, there is usually a minimum charge of £10. Go to our FILES section accessible from the Menu here thyroid treatment and on the page that opens, click on 'Natural Thyroid Extract' Folder and all the information about how to use Natural Thyroid Extract and other info. you will find there. In another FOLDER entitled 'Internet Pharmacies' open that, and you will see a list of the different pharmacies you can purchase natural thyroid extract from without a prescription. We will give you all the guidance you need if your doctor is not happy or able to do this for you. Read as much as you can about NDT and all the associated conditions that go along with having the symptoms of hypothyroidism - knowledge is power.
