Guest guest
Hello , Crikey.... are those GP's on commission to push Gabapentin? That's what Pete's GP prescribed for him too for unexplained skin sensations !! You were right not to take them, , I would not touch those with a barge pole, unless there were a real need for them and someone truly suffered from epilepsy.... Anyway, when I told my GP about my persistent hypo symptoms (especiallybrainfog and fatigue), he said that they were probably caused by me overdosing.:| When I asked them if there is any chance he could check the usual suspectsmagnesium, zinc, copper, B12, folate, ferritin he declined and said this testwasn't routinely done. He then said he isn't quite happy about me not seeing a specialist.OK – make him a happy man..... ask for a referral to a different endo. Dr. N. is useless and in your place I would not go back to him. Ask your GP to refer you to Dr. C. in London. I'd meet you there and come with you to the appointment. Do you think I am overdosing? I have to add that I took my last meds on thenight before the blood test which was done the next afternoon. I know youshouldn't take them 24 hrs before the test but I forgot.Bearing in mind that the blood was taken in the afternoon the following day, you presumably had at least 15 or 16 hours in between..... and for that your FT3 appears to be a little too high for my liking. So yes, 6 NDT are probably too many. Do you feel any better/worse now on 5 NDT ? Do you think I could be having an rt3 problem? I keep upping my dosage butdon't feel hyper at all. I think that could be a very real possibility, but I know too little about rT3. I know, you are a student and money is tight, so having an rT3 done with Genova would be quite a drain on your resources. I am hoping that Nick or anyone with more knowledge about rT3 than me is around and could comment on your test result. I can't say whether my adrenals are OK because I didn'thave a saliva test. I do take 2 NAX daily, though. I can't say anything aboutthe state of magnesium, ferritin, etc., as my GP wouldn't test for those. Theendo tested B12 and folate last year, folate was low, so I am supplementing B12and folate as well.Perhaps that's another good reason to ask for a referral? It really is important to know where you stand with those minerals and vitamins. However, it is probably a safe bet to take some D3 anyway (at least 1000 iu per day), particularly since we are having a pretty severe winter with little sunshine and you sit in an office most of the day. I am concerned about your description of pressure building up in your head. I have no idea if this might be a side effect of too much NDT or perhaps a sign for rT3 or if it could be a sinus infection or a virus, but it needs to be investigated. Your GP is very blinkered and plainly wrong to attribute those symptoms to stress headaches and prescribing anticonvulsant drugs without looking further into it. I do not like that attitude at all. He is prejudice about you taking NDT and shuts his mind off to any other possibility. You really need someone to look at you with an open mind. Does this pressure inflict on your hearing at all? I had a virus infection following a cold 2 years ago which resulted in one of my Eustachian tubes getting blocked. The pressure from fluid building up in my head was unreal. As with you, there was no pain as such, just this enormous pressure, and I became temporarily deaf in one ear, which was only resolved by having (in the end) 3 operations on my ear drum. I am fine now, but this whole episode took a whole year to be resolved. Obviously, it might be something very different with you, but whatever it is, it needs sorting. I can't imagine that such pressure could be a result of overdosing on NDT, and to me it does not sound like it has anything to do with thyroid meds.... my guess would be some viral infection causing a build-up of fluid inside the head. Do you have any balance issues as a result of the pressure? Did this pressure start after a cold? Love, xx
Guest guest
Thank you, , for your reply!I am glad you agree with me on the GP just prescribing these pretty strong meds without further checks. Won't take them!> OK – make him a happy man..... ask for a referral to a different> endo. It makes me feel like I am a hypochondriac. My biggest thyroid problem at the moment is the brain fog and I am embarrassed to tell people, because all you get is a belittling smile and the comment: "Oh, we all have that!" Yes, everyone has good days and bad days, but the type of brain fog I am talking about is debilitating! I noticed such an immense difference from healthy me to Hashi me. And I need my brain for my PhD! I reckon PhD students with thyroid problems should get an extra award...> Does this pressure inflict on your hearing at all? Guest guest
Hi , I don't know if this helps, but I also used to suffer from head pains - I used to think I was growing horns! - it felt just like that! I turned out that I was clenching my jaw and grinding my teeth at night. I was given a dental splint which really helped. If I'd got it earlier, it may have saved several of my teeth. Just a thought. Guest guest
Hi , Thanks for the reply. Oh yeh, I do actually grind my teeth, too. Do get this splints on the NHS? > > > > Hi , > I don't know if this helps, but I also used to suffer from head pains - I used to think I was growing horns! - it felt just like that! Guest guest
I used to grind my teeth VERY badly when I was a nurse, but only when I was on night duty it seemed. It was so bad the doctor prescribed me Benzedrine which I had to take before I went to sleep so if I started to grind my teeth, I would wake up and stop grinding. I was pretty tired at that time, I can tell you! Guest guest
Hi , I would tend to agree that your FT3 is high, but as you had about 18 hours since last dose that is probably not far off the mark, and that a trial of T3 only may be the way to go- with 6 NDT I would have been expecting the T4 to be higher, so you may be having absorption problems- pity doc won't help by doing ferritin at least! I would certainly consider taking zinc magnesium and selenium supplements as these may help with absorption. Have you thought of trying to get RT3 tested privately to see if going T3 only is the answer. > thyroid treatment > From: yvo2002@...> Date: Mon, 31 Jan 2011 11:53:46 +0000> Subject: Having a great start to the week....
