Guest guest
Hi Kathleen I have oral lichen planus (undiagnosed for years so it's pretty bad). It started off with cracked tongue, lips, dry mouth, burning mouth, white tongue (although this came later) and eventually ulcers, lesions, red gums and a host of other symptoms. I couldn't brush my teeth or eat without tremendous pain. It was eventually diagnosed by a cheek biopsy at Guy's. It is brought on by stress and a rundown immune system. My dentist told me that one of her patients who had just been diagnosed with cancer suddenly developed a lichen planus rash all over her body. Such extreme stress can bring it on. Here is a link and there's more info on google... http://www.bsom.org.uk/PatientInformation/OLP_PIL_BSOM_Oct_09.pdf It is possible that you may have this as you have been through much and your immune system isn't up to scratch. I hope you get to the bottom of it! Love Jacquie x > > HI ALL > Having been placed on Prednisolone to treat what I am told is Polymyalgia, by the fact that my ESR AND CRP were raised and with a chest infection CRP went up much higher. > [Ed]
Guest guest
HI JACQUIE, My previous GP said that I had Lichen Planus, but I had got in touch with my present surgery by phone and although I mentioned Lichen Planus the GP who phoned back insisted that it was Thrush and prescribed Nystan Oral Suspension. It appears to me that it is the GP'S who are wasting so much money on drugs with wrong diagnoses. I felt that I would hit problems when I moved and had to change surgeries. My CPN has not even been in touch to make another appointment, but I am going to wait and see what happens there. She bought me back from seeing a psychiatrist, but she did not appear to know where her car was, until I told her where it was, and then she had forgotten her keys. I have to wonder if she too has a thyroid problem, and who needs drugs? (not me). I even tried to boost my immune system with Rosehip and Echinatia, and that helped my throat, but in turn caused more problems with a rash on my bad arm then it was treated with something for allergy until it started going blue, then I was prescibed an antibiotic which cleared it up. I even asked the GP at the time if I should take it. I can only hope that my holiday in Skipton will help my immune system. Guest guest
Kathleen,When I had all those horrible nasties over Christmas which didn't seem to be clearing up someone on the group suggested Sambucol. Within a week to 10 days of taking it I got better. I took the maximum dose allowed. It is supposed to help with the immune system and all I can say is (a) it worked( I would have been better anyway or© it had a placebo effect. But before I took it the viruses were just not going away. After I took it I got better. Lilian
Guest guest
You need to have to have a tiny piece of flesh removed and this checked in the laboratory to find whether you are suffering with Lichen Planus/Lichen Sclerosis or not. This should not be guessed at. Guest guest
I have had a gynaecologist confirm that I have a tendency to Lichen Sclerosis, and have also been sore in that region lately plus being constipated which in turn could be caused by Lichen Sclerosis. There was no Lichen sclerosis noted recently at Chelsea and Westminster and the womb inside is good. They also took a biopsy and found nothing wrong. Could Lichen sclerosis also occur in the mouth and cause sore gums. If not could Lichen Planus appear in private areas and cause soreness and constipation. I also felt something was wrong with the gums on my last dental check-up, but I hope they allow another Dentist to check me out this time. These conditions are I believe Autoimmune, but problems for me appear to have worsened since Xmas since I allowed Jehovah's witnesses to visit me with bible instruction. The one that has visited all along does have a health problem. I am wondering if to stop these visits to see if my health improves, but in turn how to put it to her, as I do not like hurting peoples feelings. My former GP did say that one can make the other ill (in relationship to the former Husband). My Mother-in-Law had autoimmune Diabetes, and each time her Husband was ill with his lungs her Diabetes played up. I have also heard that some people with thyroid problems in turn have problems with what their teeth have been filled with. On going back to just before I was 18 I visited the Dentist, and had to have 8 fillings. My face swelled and would not go down (I had also not long started going out with the former Husband) in turn I stayed in my bedroom not wanting to be seen with a face like it. My Mother took me back to the Dentist, and this was caused by an infection and I had to use salt water to rinse my mouth with. My face got better, but it was after this that I developed a clicking jaw, but nothing showed on Xray. I also have a photo of myself taken at about that time showing the dark panda eyes. At the time when health problems started again after my second pregnancy (having also moved it involved a change in Dentist). At first I had problems with earaches, and my GP sent me to the Dentist, and the Dentist suggested an Orthodontist, as he felt that the jaw problem was the cause, but I could not take this on with two young children, breast feeding and no one to look after them. Just over the year after the birth which meant I had to pay for treatment. I had to have yet another 7 fillings, and from this I have to feel that ones health and teeth are related. All my back teeth are filled, two crowns and one root filling. The fillings are a silver colour in fact held together by this silver metal. I have also been said to have a form of gum disease in the past, and to make matters worse my parents both had to have their teeth removed due to gum disease. Both my Daughters had to have orthodontic work done, but as a child myself I refused to have a brace due to overcrowding of my front teeth. My eldest Daughter in turn developed a clicking jaw on the same side, and with her they also carried out a different type of Xray. The GP told us that it was caused by an old infection that had cleared up, so I presume that Dentist can cause you an infection that in turn causes the clicking jaw, but mine has stopped clicking some years back. Some people on the forums have also had problems with clicking jaws. Is there any links between thyroid problems and teeth, and the mouth being the first part of the digestive system. Guest guest
Kathleen,A friend of mine had lichen planus in her mouth which she could not get rid of with the stuff the doctor and dentist gave her. Then by accident she discovered that toothpaste that contained aloe vera used every day for a while got rid of it. . Lilian
Guest guest
HI LILIAN The mouthwash I have is by dr.organic and does have ALOE VERA AND TEATREE in it, but I could have done without the extra mint flavour. The toothpaste that at the moment I cannot use yet, is also by dr.organic and also has Teatree and Aloe Vera. It does not have Calcium Carbonate in it, and flavour is Menthol, but it also has on the box that it is a lemon mint flavour. At the moment I cannot eat citrus fruit or endure vinegar with my beetroot, but don't mention to me about a Dentist who told me that I brushed my teeth too hard and caused my gums to recede. I did have a very good Dentist before I moved, and also have to climb up stairs at this Dentist. Guest guest
Thanks for this link Sheila, from what I gather it is less likely to get Lichen Sclerosis in the mouth. Keratin also rings a bell with these Milia that mainly appear under the eyes, and at times under the eyelids causing pain, plus having one exumed from my breast. Keratin is what is in these milia spots. Keratin in turn is a form of protein, so in turn possibly calcium, as calcium is in turn a problem to me, and in turn my Brother would not have calcium as a youngster. My own children would not eat meat or milk. Both cried a lot especially after last feed at night (both breastfed)and with what I would say was colic, and both were born with Milia which did not disappear as in some babies. I myself have been trying to have tinned tuna, and tinned salmon. I also bought some rice milk with added calcium (a large one) on Saturday and finnished it yesterday. I also increased my magnesium that I have just started on up to two (300mg chelated magnesium in all). Needless to say back comes the cramp plus having to use a suppositry for constipation (not haemorroids). I have also been doing my Tesco order today (plus being problems with their site), but I spent time looking at ingrediants in the different types of milk. Some of the milk that has added calcium plus D2 and B12 etc, but non have added magnesium, so could this be a problem, as you need magnesium to balance calcium. I have in the past also mentioned that the water supply here is high in calcium, but not much magnesium. Perhaps you could let me know what is in the water at Skipton. I have ordered milk that does not contain added calcium, but still some rice milk. I will also only have the red salmon as that contains magnesium, and continue with two magnesium a day. If no cramp tonight them it has to be calcium that is a cause of cramp. It will be interesting to see if my mouth gets better as well, as calcium has to go in through the mouth, and exit ones body as well. I lived also on complan for a year, and it does not cause an upset stomach, but constipation, and is high in calcium, but on the other hand soya protein isolate will upset ones stomach. Since also being on Prednisolone I have noted that the Milia spots have got worse.
