Guest guest
Hello , Some causes of high Reverse T3 are: Unrelenting stress, autoimmune disorders, exposure to environmental toxins, including chemical pollutants, pesticides, mercury & fluoride, hormone imbalances: especially high levels of circulating oestrogen, nutrient deficiencies, infections, poor liver function or exposure to electromagnetic radiation. Unrelenting stress results in high levels of cortisol, the main hormone released by the adrenal glands in response to stress. Elevated cortisol inhibits conversion of T4 into T3, reducing active T3 levels. T4 is instead converted to reverse T3, an inactive form of T3. Reverse T3 dominance may persist even when your stress levels settle down and cortisol levels return to normal. This is because the reverse T3 continues to inhibit the conversion of T4 to T3, perpetuating production of the inactive T3 hormone. You say your T4, TSH, fT4, fT3, TG and TPO results are normal. Please can you post the actual figures for these results together with the reference range - and as they did Total T4, did they also do Total T3 - as these are important to work out whether you actually do have Reverse T3. Luv - Sheila can anyone help me find some information on RT3 and Adrenal Fatigue, when all other tests (T4,TSH,FT4,FT3,TG,TPO) are normal? I'm wanting to find out if my high RT3 is only caused by my Adrenal Fatigue, or if there are other reasons why this might be? (I'm just about to do a test for Adrenal Fatigue - Serum Test.) I've read the files on this Forum and have gone to the ReverseT3 website too, but I'm just wondering if there's anything I've missed? Cheers, . Guest guest
Thanks for that Sheila. My results were as follows: T4: 133.0 TSH: 1.05 (TSH was 1.59 on 16/03/11 - taken via GP's surgery) FT4: 16.1 FT3: 5.58 FT4:FT3 Ratio: 2.9 RT3: 0.57 TG: 20 TPO: 10 As far as I can tell, they didn't do a Total T3. This was all done via Genova Diagnostics. Do you think that I should get a test for Total T3 as well? Many thanks, You say your T4, TSH, fT4, fT3, TG and TPO results > are normal. Guest guest
Hi , total T3 is not generally regarded as a helpful test as it combines RT3 and FT3- and you have both figures seperately.- the ratio between them is important as it will indicate if you have conversion problems if RT3 is too high. > thyroid treatment > From: farrmusic@...> Date: Sun, 17 Apr 2011 09:37:51 +0000> Subject: Re: High RT3 and Adrenal Fatigue> > Thanks for that Sheila.> My results were as follows:> > FT3: 5.58> RT3: 0.57> > As far as I can tell, they didn't do a Total T3.
