Guest guest
Hi all, just wanted to let you know that after a series of disappointing visits to NHS endos which had me reduced to tears every time, I have been to see Dr Skinner today and the only tears I cried today were tears of laughter because this man has a hilarious sense of humour! While it was very nice to talk to someone who actually listens, he couldn't explain why my FT3 (4.4, ref 3.1-6.8) and FT4 (10, ref 12-22) are low despite a relatively high dose of NDT (5 grains, Thiroyd from Thailand). I think he was suspecting that the NDT from Thailand wasn't the greatest. He gave me the choice to trial Armour instead or go with the synthetic T3+T4. As I already have T4+T3 lying around at home anyway (just never used it in combination), I said I will give that a try, which he agreed was the sensible option. He told me to go on 400 mcg T4 and 20 mcg T3 for 3 weeks, then have another blood test. I am not sure if his plan will work, but to be fair, it can't get much worse to what it is at the moment, so I'll give it a bash... He is also writing a letter to my GP, asking them to test my ferritin and do some test for the parathyroids. I have no idea if I will get these tests done. I have given 2 blood samples to test ferritin in the last 2 weeks as I have a family history of haemochromatosis, but both times the lab refused to test! Anyways, just wanted to let you know about this positive experience of my thyroid odyssey! Yvi
