Guest guest
Hi Anne, I had a similar experience and in the end decided to take T3 on its own. I didn't test for rT3 but just changed over to T3 starting on a low dose. It was definitely the answer as I have lost weight and the pains all over my body has lifted. The only thing is T3 on it own is very harsh on the adrenals so it would be important to do a test to check adrenal function. You can read about this on Nick's website http://thyroid-rt3.com/ Judy
Guest guest
Hello Anne - long time no hear! Ask your GP to test your levels of ferritin, vitamin B12, vitamin D3, magnesium, folate, copper and zinc and also ask him to test your blood to see if you have thyroid antibodies too. It is possible you might be suffering with other conditions such as low adrenal reserve, systemic candidiasis, mercury poisoning caused through amalgam fillings etc that is stopping the thyroid hormone from working which must be tested and addressed before the thyroid hormone can work. OR - it might simply be that you need to increase your dose of Erfa. This should be increased every three weeks by half a grain (30mgs) until you find the dose your body is happy with and you should not be titrating your dose according to the results of any serum thyroid function tests. You will find the dose you need one morning, a couple of hours or so after taking your latest increase, by finding you are getting palpitations, feeling dizzy, sweating, feeling 'spaced out' and generally hyPER. That shows you have taken too much. The feeling will leave you after a couple of hours or so. Don't take any more thyroid med. that day, but the following day, go back onto the dose you were on before your latest increase - and THAT is usually the dose your body requires, probably for the rest of your life. Hope this helps. Luv - Sheila Hi everyone, I have been ill with colds, coughs and chest infections since just before Christmas. I just can't seem to regain my health and energy. I am taking Erfa, and before that, Nature Throid, but I don't seem to have being doing well since the Armour shortage. I am getting really depressed because I have pains all over my body just to make matters worse. Anyone got any suggestions - apart from asking the vet to end it all for me!! Guest guest
Hi Judy, sorry to butt in here but I'd love to hear more about your experience. I switched from erfa over to t3 only 10 days ago also without having the actual rt3 test. Could you tell me more about what you switched from, how you dosed and how you felt along the way. When did you start losing weight? Thanks! > > I had a similar experience and in the end decided to take T3 on its own. I didn't test for rT3 but just changed over to T3 starting on a low dose. Guest guest
Hi , Having found Sheila, TPA and Dr P I started on a journey of regaining my health. Over the last two years I have switched from Levothyroxine (still hypothyroid) to first old Armour which I felt well on. Then new formula Armour and I became hypo again. Next I tried Greater Pharma thyroid which was good at first but I started to feel hypo again and it took me a while to work it out. I tried adding T3 to NDT but still didn't get feel any better. I thought it could be rT3 soI decided to give just T3 a go. As I also have low adrenal function and having tried to get this diagnosed by the NHS endo, I decided to take HC having tried adrenal support and granulars to either no effect or not suiting me. So 12 weeks before Christmas 2010 I made the switch to T3 following Nicks advice on RT3_T3/?yguid=265026183 I was a bit worried as to how I would feel at Christmas but I was ok. I just kept an eye on my temperature and pulse and dose accordingly. As Nicks says you get a feel for T3 and if you have taken to much. If I take too much I get a strange feeling across the bridge of my nose and my vision is a bit blurred and I feel agitated with people and TV which is not me at all. So then I don't take anymore that day. It is a bit trial and error. The weight just came off gradually over the first 3 months even over Christmas. I haven't changed what I eat but I am not as hungry so maybe I have eaten a little less. Nice way to lose weight though. One stone down 2 more to go. I started on 16th October by switching from from one and a half NDT (Efra) and 25mcg T3 to 50 mcg T3 taken in 4 doses and HC 7.5 mg split in 3 doses. I increased the HC to 15mg in 4 doses. by week 5 I had lost 7lbs. I did slowly increase the T3 to 75mcg but I haven't put that in my dairy so I am not sure when exactly but it was before the 12 weeks. For now I am staying on T3 but may try NDT again at some point. Guest guest
Hi Judy, Thanks for taking the time to share all of that with me. Its great to hear positive stories, esp as I'm in a fairly similar situation to what you were. I hope I have the same success and yours continues. > > Hi , > > Having found Sheila, TPA and Dr P I started on a journey of regaining my health. > > Over the last two years I have switched from Levothyroxine (still hypothyroid) to first old Armour which I felt well on. My " sympathic " GP retired last September, so I now have to " train " a new GP! I will make an appointment to see the new man and see what can be done. The good thing is new GP seems like he wants to do the best for you. You might be interested to learn that Debra is struggling too. Guest guest
Hi Anne, sorry to hear that both you and Debra are still going through it - boy, am I glad that I don't live in Leeds where the whole endocrinology specialists there are active members of British Thyroid Association. I know of nobody who is experiencing thyroid problems, either in being diagnosed or treated properly who is being offered any hope of ever getting better around that city because of their stick in the mud protocols. Let us know your results when you get them back and we will help with their interpretation. The next TPA Conference is Saturday, 11th June at 'The Black Horse', High Street, Skipton in West Yorkshire. If you wish to book a place, let me know and tell me how many places you need. Details are in our Christmas Newsletter (see our web site www.tpa-uk.org.uk under 'TPA News'. Guest guest
> > Hi Anne, sorry to hear that both you and Debra are still going through it - Hi Sheila, Yes - we do seem to be struggling in Leeds! I have discharged myself from Harrogate with the proviso that the doctor write to my GP giving them the ok to adjust my Erfa (or whatever) dosage to suit my symptoms. I can only trust that they did this. It seems that you can still get a combined treatment there, but you have to " prove " your case and more recently you are more likely to get synthetic T4 and T3. I don't know what the answer is - unless we can get a celebrity to come out of the closet and be a spokesperson, we will have an unending uphill battle. We need someone like Joanna Lumley - look what she did for the Gurkhas! Janet Ellis has acknowledged she had " thyroid problems " - don't know of anyone else in the UK. I will keep you posted on my progress with new GP. Can't see him at the moment as I have lost my voice!!! I will update you on Debra too.
