Guest guest
If my endo starts fluttering because my TSH is low I just say that the NDT is doing its job then!! Lets face it, if you have had your thyroid killed with RAI (or its dead anyway) then what the hell would you need a stimulating hormone for? Guest guest
Hi Neil, ask your GP to give you a trial of Moduretic (co-Amilozide 50mcgs) daily instead of the Bendrofluazide as it is a potassium saving drug and less harsh than the one you are taking. There are many reasons why your levothyroxine might not be working (see attached). These doctors know little or nothing about treating those with the symptoms of hypothyroidism. They should be working towards getting their patient's symptoms to disappear, not to get the TSH where THEY think it should be. The majority of people taking any form of thyroid hormone replacement will show a TSH below the recommended reference range - nobody checked our TSH when we were well, so they don't know what is 'normal' for each individual. If you were hyperthyroid, you would not be so without the signs and symptoms of hyperthyroidism. Your GP should be asked to test your blood to see whether you have low levels of ferritin, B12, D3, magnesium, folate, copper and zinc. If these are low, your thyroxine will not be converting to the active T3 that is needed to make every cell in your body and brain function. Because doctors know so little, and because many of them actually cause harm to their patients through this lack of knowledge, often patients are being driven to self treat and self monitor. We are not medically qualified, but we know a lot more than doctors about the diagnosing and management of those with symptoms of hypothyroidism. Have you bought Dr Peatfield's Book " Your Thyroid and How to Keep it Healthy " - this is one of the best books you can buy, and he talks you through how you need to take an active part in your treatment. You can buy it through Amazon for about £8.00 and if you go to our web site www.tpa-uk.org.uk, you can help TPA by buying it through the link which is in the right hand column, under TPA News). ' Buy anything from Amazon'. Luv - Sheila I had a follow up with my endo the other day and he's unhappy at the decision to increase to 75mcg, saying my TSH is already on the low side and suspects I could now be Hyper and I'm waiting for results to come back to confirm this. Question is, has anyone else experienced similar treatment and what should I do ? I finally lost a stone in weight over the last 7 months, due to healthy eating and finally having the energy to exercice, I'm scared I will revert to my old ways and be ill again. __ 1 of 1 File(s) Why thyroid hormone stops working (2).doc
