Hi

I'm starting NAX and wondering if people have had any side effects whilst taking

it? Also do thyroid meeds always need to be stopped before starting, and for how

long? Do I increase weekly up tp 6 tablets if needed. My saliva results were

very poor, I may need HC but thought would start with NAX first.

Thanks

Han

Hi,

Usually people start NAX for about a week before they start on thyroid meds to

boost the adrenals. You should not need to stop taking any thyroid meds.

The only side effect if you could call it that was that it can make your urine a

funny colour - mine was bright orange and someone else I know said theirs was a

greenish colour?!

Hope that helps

It is always best to stop thyroid hormone replacement when

starting to boost the adrenals. This is because unless you do, because the

adrenals are suddenly being boosted into action, they may cause the thyroid

hormone to suddenly 'dump' in your cells and you could suddenly feel extremely

hyperthyroid. it is recommended you stop thyroid medication for approximately 7

days and then introduce it back on the 8th day in the dose you were taking

previously. If you get up to 6 tablets without feeling any benefit, then this

is usually an indication you may need HC.

Thank you Sheila. I now understand the rationale behind this. My only fear is

being without thyroid meeds for a week - I know T4 has a long half life but I

was on a low dose (50mcgs) of T4 and 20mcgs of T3. And Im wondering if I will be

able to cope with the time without thyroid replacement - 7 days seems a long

time! But perhaps I am worrying too much!

Try as many days as you can Hank, but don't make yourself ill.

If you find symptoms really starting to rear their ugly head again, then just

take a small amount of T3, and then use the dose you were on previously after

day 7 of NAE.
