Hello Dee,

Sorry to hear you are feeling so unwell.

It can be terribly confusing trying to work it all out...whether we are hypo, hyper or even ill due to something else.

Looking at the bigger picture though it does seem like you may be on a bit too much T3 especially as your FT3 is 9 and you are suffering these horrible symptoms.

As T3 is approximately four times as strong as T4 (according to medical literature) this means you are on the equivalent of 320mcg of T4 which is a fairly hefty dose. Not unheard of but high nonetheless.

In the past I have felt dreadful with increased doses of T3.The symptoms included headache, aching back, legs and a feeling of brain delerium almost.I also felt wired but at the same time bone tired.Whenever I felt like this I would just stop taking it for a couple of days and start up again at a much lower dose.

I have no medical training and can't tell you what to do but I really think this may well be your best bet for feeling instantly better.I always feel initially better coming off thyroid meds when I am going through a period of intolerance/or what I call a Hashi's flare-up.

Perhaps you do need some T4.I have started alternating my T3 with Armour and find it suits me slightly better.

Hope you feel better real soon.

Hi dee, A FT3 of 9 is certainly high- did you take your T3 on the day of the test, if you don't take any T3 for 24 hours before the test your results will be about half that it would be if you had taken your T3 a couple of hours before. If that is the case your T3 would then be about 4.5 which is quite nice. You can feel tired when hyper as well as hypo, but hyper is generally a bit shaky with hand tremor, clammy skin and insomnia- it's sometimes hard to work out which side of 'normal' you are! However according to Nick at the RT3 forum if you have been on T3 alone for 3 months or so, then RT3 clears and you then suddenly need to reduce dose- could this be the case? All you can do is to try a reduction and see if it helps- you'll know in a couple of days if you are heading in the right direction. > thyroid treatment > From: deetwigg@...> Date: Tue, 8 Mar 2011 11:13:50 +0000> Subject: Advice needed please re t3 not feeling well again> > Hi there> I came off my levothyroxine last year and started on t3 only ........... i feel really unwell all of a sudden.> I have certain hypo symptoms still ie aching terribly my legs feel like lead im having trouble walking and i feel so down which i never experience.> I have however got more energy but my t3 was 9 which was high but guess it would be which maybe suggests im hyper but im so confused as if im hypo ie these awful pains and feeling so tired why would i also be hyper ie racing mind more energy but still very tired if that makes sense!> I am taking 80mgs t3 tried cutting it down and felt worse my heartrate has increased but not so it bothers me im due bloods in 2 weeks but need to know what to do now as i feel really ill, do you think i should add t4 or stick just with t3?> Sorry this is so long i have noone else i can discuss it with> Thankyou x> > > > ------------------------------------> > TPA is not medically qualified.
