Guest guest
My thyroid was tested prior to an unrelated op and I have been told the results show suppressed TSH, high and out of range FT3 and FT4 and antibodies also present. As a result my op has been postponed and my liothyronine reduced by 10mcg to 30mcg but my levothyroxine is staying at 150mcg until FT3 is brought under control. I started suffering from shortness of breath within a few hours of decreasing my liothyronine and in the 8 days since taking the lower dose this symptom seems to be worsening. This symptom is present all the time, even when sitting down or inactive; I feel like I can't open my lungs all the way. I'm also more tired and fall asleep earlier in the evenings, I have an increased aching in my legs when walking up the stairs in our house. I definitely feel worse now I'm on the lower dose and with a further proposed reduction in a week I'm getting worried. I only suffered shortness of breath on my previous levels if I did exercise. I told the doctor about my shortness of breath and she told me it was psychosomatic. I also take sertraline; I don't know I this has an affect on my thyroid. Can anyone advise on how to manage the breathlessness and if it is a known side affect when reducing the liothyronine? If I know these symptoms are normal 'withdrawal' side affects and wont last will make this easier to bear. Any opinions on why I felt ok when clinically hyper but I felt no obvious symptoms to indicate hyperthyroid? Thank you.
