Guest guest
My endo offered me a 5 day trial of 5 mcg T3 daily. The pharmacist dispensed four times as much as he should have so I had twenty doses to play with! I took 5 mcg daily for a week and my symptoms improved. I tried 2 x 5 mcg and got very hot and bothered and a bit panicky, so left that off for a while. After three weeks I went to my GP and told him I was already taking 10 mcg per day (2 x 5) and that I was not due to see the endo again until Feb. GP agreed I could have 7 weeks worth @ 10 mcg per day, but the pharmacist got it wrong again, so instead of 28 tablets, he gave me 56! I waited until I felt that I had reached a plateau and then went up to 10 mcg (2 x 5) from Christmas Eve and have seen a further improvement in symptoms. Feeling like I am coming to another plateau and would like to add another 5 mcg. Currently taking 5 mcg when I wake and the next 5 mcg at 2.00pm. Should I add another dose or should I try10mcg when I wake and 5mcg after lunch? Symptoms relieved, some almost immediately – dire rear, feeling cold, insomnia, muscle twitching, swollen gums, muscle and joint pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, I have hair regrowth and after seven weeks on T3 I am almost ready to go and get my eyebrows shaped! Guest guest
Hi Dolly I'm currently taking 75mcg T3 only (although still not well because of adrenal and vitamin and mineral deficiencies). If I were you, I would try taking the third 5mcg just before lights out/when you put your head down to sleep. I found this gave me more energy in the morning and did not keep me awake at all. In fact, I sleep so much better now. I would also advise you to join up with the T3 group RT3_T3/?yguid=270646714 and you can read up on doses on Nick's website http://thyroid-rt3.com/dosing.htm. I would suggest browsing through it as it has lots of valuable info and both tpa-uk and the T3 group have lots of info in their files sections. Guest guest
Most certainly, if this was me, I would be raising my dose of T3 by another 5 mcgs. This is a very tiny dose as most people are started on T3 20mcgs T3, split twice daily. However, if you have a heart problem, or particularly sensitive to T3 in other ways, best to stay on 5mcgs increases. I would be tempted to use 10mcgs in a morning and 5mcgs in the afternoon, and after a week to 10 days, if no adverse reactions, add another 5mcgs to your afternoon dose so you are taking 20mcgs T3. Really, the only way to find the dose your body requires is to keep increasing your dose in this way until you start to get the symptoms of hyperthyroidism, i.e. palpitations, agitation, symptoms of feeling spaced out and generally 'odd'. These symptoms will come on a couple of hours or so after your latest increase in dose. What you do then is to stop taking any more T3 that day, and the following day, go back to the dose you were taking the day before your increase - and that is often the dose you body needs, probably for the rest of your life. It doesn't work by doctors doing blood tests to see where your thyroid levels lie, and titrating your dose according to those. These tests only show the level of thyroid hormone in your blood, and not the level being absorbed at cellular level. I would tell your doctor when you increase your dose and keep him in the picture, and assure him that you know what you are doing and what you will do if you find you have taken too much.
