Guest guest
Hi there, I wonder if anyone can give me advice please. I am classed as borderline underactive. I have been taking 2 Nutri adrenal extra and 4 Nutri adrenal. plus 4 Nutri thyroid plus lots of VitC. The Nutri adrenal tablets help me alot and I go down moreso if I stop taking them. I asked my GP for a second opinion at a London Hosp., and because the hosp. found I was low in VitD, I am now taking D3. The hosp. found my blood low in cortisol and they told me to stop taking the Nutri adrenal tablets and gave me some Hydrocortisol tablets 10mg. The Dr. also said he wants me to come in for a couple of days to run some tests, to find out whats causing this. One test would be for my pituitary gland? My questions are, 1. would my blood show-up low in cortisol because I have been taking all the NUTRI ADRENAL TABLETS for about a year now.? 2. Why would he give me hydrocortisol tablets now if he is going to call me in hosp. i think he said in the next month to do some tests.? 3. Are they alright just to take and do they have side effects, because when I picked them up from the hospital pharm., she gave me a blue card to keep on me at all times? If I go to my GP, he will just tell me that the hosp. know what they are talking about. I will be very thankful for any advice. kind regards June
Guest guest
I responded to this message yesterday - where has that disappeared. Did you change the subject heading. I told you that yes, taking Nutri Adrenal Extra would affect the short synacthen test results and that it should be stopped at least 2 full weeks before the test. I also said that whoever advised you to take hydrocortisone should not have done so either before having such a test. This will definitely affect the result and you should have been offered Dexamethasone instead. Speak to the doctor about this and get him to check. You can take the Dexamethasone up to the day before the test is done I believe. When taking any form of hydrocortisone you should carry a card around with you, some people have a medic alert bracelet to warn the medics should you have an accident or something.
