Guest guest
Hi, my name is Suzy. I was diagnosed with graves disease last year in october although i had been suffering alot longer before being diagnosed. Found out i was allergic to carbimazole so they decided i either had rai or remove my whole thyroid straight away as i couldnt have no more medication. I opted for the total thyroidectomy which i had done on the 14th Jan this year. I was put om 100mcg levothyroxine and the hospital told me to take my calcium supplement at the same time. ( which i now realise you have to wait 4 hours after to take other supplements because of the absorbtion). After 6 to 8 weeks my body was feeling horrible and cramping all the time, muscles aching all the time and i was sleeping all the time as well.Had my blood test and was told it was ok ft4 was 16.0 the range 7.5 to 21.0 tsh was 0.02.I told him my symptoms and he suggested anti depressants which i told him " i dont feel depressed even tho i have the odd day of cryin, im crying because my body is achin and i cant do nothin, NOT because i feel suicidal because i dont " .He told me to take them anyway as it will help with my muscles. I did NOT take them. I contacted the hospital and asked if i could speak to the endocrinologist i saw before my operation and he called me back and told me to increase my levothyroxine to 150mcg every day and see him in 4 weeks. I decided to try 125mcg and saw the endo 4 weeks later. blood results were.. ft4 12.4 range 7.5 to 21.0 ft3 3.3 range 3.5 to 5.6 tsh 0.04 range 0.34 to 5.6 I was then told to take 150mcg levothyroxine a day and see him in July and my blood request form for July is for ft4 and tsh only. Ive been to the doctor last week and asked about t3 replacement and was told to go away. Ive also been back this mornin as my heart has been playin up over the weekend and im struggling to get up the stairs because im getting out of breath so i only took 125mcg levo this mornin incase my levels had maybe risen to much and just wanted to no if i had done the rite thing. I got to the doctor and he said how about you not having any levothyroxine for a few days, i will do a blood test now and then i will decide a dose for you then. I said NOOOOOO. He said ok then i want you to take a 100mcg till i call you wednesday. He then told me he goes by the TSH. Well my jaw dropped to the floor, had my bloods done and walked out. Im so confused. I know he is gonna take my mediction down and im gonna be left worse than i am now. I cant swap doctors either because the only other one in my catchment area i was with a few years ago and that one even refused to look at my thyroid when it was chokin me so i left. Does anyone know of any private doctors in the south of england who i could see? Sorry if i have bored anyone to tears with my moanin. Suzy.
