Catching up here... There's another problem: doesn't provide for inter-list moderation. If I could move messages back and forth between lists, it would be a simple thing and I'd do it. But doesn't work that way. -

Guest guest
How about appointing a separate moderator for the other list? It should be a simple process: if someone posts something off-topic or against the list rules, then the moderator posts a reminder. If the person(s) persist, then they're banned from the list. It certainly works on many other lists I've been on, I can't see why it couldn't work for this one also. ~ Fern Re: Re: This list Betsy- >And you know what they're talking about on the nt politics list right >now enzymes and protein?!?!?! There are always the usual people who try to start stuff. . .I have even seen one particular guy get put on moderation several times. It really does works. If we could just get the subject lines to coordinate. If all Off Topic Posts clearly stated (OFF TOPIC POST) in the subject line, we could use a filter to sort the e-mail into a separate folder. . .like the bulk mail I get. Seems fairly simple. It would just take a while for the moderator to get everyone co-ordinated. Sheryl Sheryl Illustrations http://dovedesignsrus.com
Guest guest
Deanna. . .We all make mistakes I don't think anyone could blame you for the whole thread. Like I said in my earlier post if the subject line of all the " OFF TOPIC " could clearly state " OFF TOPIC " we could use filters. Essentially we could run the one group as two. It's too hard to figure out what is " on topic " .... diet and health and politics are just too intertwined, and the long discussions just go all over the place. I would encourage people who want to get into long detailed never-ending discussions to go to the nt_politics list though, so as not to bug the folks who want to concentrate on cooking and health. The only thing I ban is spam and personal attacks and impoliteness. If some really cool NT-oriented thing comes up though, I'll be happy to cross-post it. -- Heidi Jean

Guest guest
Send me directions to your house, Heidi, and a list of your wine preferences, so I can be a good and proper guest. Twist my arm, crab is my favorite shellfish! Ummmmmmh! I'm in North Texas, near Dallas/Fort Worth, in the less air polluted section :-) Should you come here, we'll go to any culinary region you want to go. We'll have to do things big here, Texas style. Should you come in fruit season, we'll have whatever's in season with cream. Y'all come now!! Let's do our feasting and chatting up big. Hmmm. Do you make your own GF French bread? Do share!? I'll be replying to you and others shortly on nt_politics. I just want to plug it as a great compliment to this list. The nice thing about it is that it is not publicly archived, thus, I feel I can really let my hair down, sip away and even get a little frisky on the *other* list. Whether or not that is good is subjective, of course. Much more relaxed though and young, like a little sprout. Deanna Heh heh ... Guest guest
Agree with that this has to be software controllable. Have seen many food related seemingly benign starting threads go into poltical and moral debates. Only suggestion is we learn to police ourselves better. Do you make your own GF French bread? Do share!? Well, it is one of the " faffy " recipes that I still don't have down totally right, but it makes a very fluffy bread close to Wonder Bread. It comes out best in an Angel Food cake pan, because you can invert it while cooling, but it might work in a baguette mold too. Also it is as nutrition-less as French bread! But my kids love soft soft soft bread so .... White Bread 2 1/2 c. cornstarch 1/2 c potato starch (Swan brand at the store works) 2 T sweet rice flour 1 egg white 4 1/2 t yeast 1/4 cup sugar 1 1/2 t xanthan gum 2 C hot tap water 2 1/2 T oil 1 1/2 t salt Mix everything together in a blender. It will be a fairly thin batter. Pour it into an UNGREASED angel food cake pan, spray some oil on top of the batter. Let it rise, but keep an eye on it or it will rise too much. Let it rise in the oven so you don’t have to move it. It should about double in bulk. Then turn on the oven and bake at 300 degrees for 30 minutes, then 350 for 40 minutes. Take it out of the oven, and invert the pan, let it cool well. Then cut it away from the sides of the pan, push out the bottom piece, and cut it away from the bottom. This is VERY soft bread. I freeze it before cutting. -- Heidi Jean

Well, in about a 200 yard radius from where I now sit live goats, chickens, longhorns, ducks and horses (and dogs, cats, birds, rabbits, rodents, reptiles). So we could have quite the meal here in Texas! Why, did you know Texas sports the only horse slaughter facility in the nation (cmiiw). The French eat horse. Too much of a taboo here in the states I guess. Anyone ever eat horse meat? If so, what's it like? Sorry to gross anyone out, but at least I'm on topic :-) Rabbit I have eaten before, and frog legs. I haven't had rattlesnake yet, but they live around these parts too, along with cottonmouths, copperheads, ratsnakes, etc. Deanna

Guest guest
Folks, I think the fundamental thing is that we all are in the same boat, we all try to help each other and that this (and all such groups) have tremendous benefits! When people care about something it is often hard to put emotions aside. It is also hard to control our energy. And, what is most difficult is to fully understand what a person is feeling, thinking and writing when you deal with email. All those things sometimes have a destabilizing effect! Hopefully we can all resynch on the help and care we offer each other and stay on the team!!
