I need a bit of support following a G.P's visit. I really don't know what I do now.To fill you in - my adrenals are in a state (both Sheila and Dr P have said I'm close to s). I ordered some HC on the internet and have tried 10mg both yesterday and today - with a real difference. Normally I am bed bound most of the day. But this morning I could actually go out and garden for 20 minutes.Today I went to see my GP and explained my concerns about addisons. I didn't have the guts to say I've already tried HC. The GP won't prescribe HC herself and wants to send me for a short synacthen test (which of course is exactly what you said Sheila:) and refer me to a consultant. The trouble is without NAX or HC, I really don't think I'm well enough to even get to hospital to do a short synacthen test  - it'll just make me too ill. I don't think the GP realises just how ill it'll make me - I become dehydrated, dizzy, nauseous, etc.But she insists that I need it (although I've got the cortisol saliva test) and that it has to be done because if I'm addisons, I need to be shown how to use injections, etc. What do I do?Either wait for a long time to have a test that will make me ill.Or continue self-medicating - difficult as I'm on benefits and I need GP's support financially. The other option I guess is to find a consultant privately that will help sooner - though obviously money is a big issue.Or just get the test done privately??Sheila, could you possibly email me your list of good doctors - both NHS and private - I'm in Gloucestershire - so anyone in south-west,Worcestershire, Birmingham or Bristol might do - except there again I'm too ill to travel.Sorry about the ramble. There always seems to be barriers put in the way - just as I thought I could start on the road to recovery. The NHS seems to be putting up barriers that make people more ill. I wish I could get across how really ill I am.Any help much appreciated. Best wishes, Alison
