Ive hashi dx from 2007. was taking 50mcg thyroxine with tsh consistently 0.1

(0.3-0.6) so dose was dropped to 50/25 alternating, but tsh still 0.1 so dose

was dropped to 25mcg, 3 months back. Dr wanted me to re test in 6 months but

agreed to 3 months.

I was due for the 3 month retest when I had heart problems that put me in

hospital and resulted in being given beta blocker. they did tft for me

My heart wasn't right so I saw a different GP about that, and she said it was my

AF and SVT taking turns. She didn't even take my pulse! I asked for the tft

results taken in hospital, and it was

tsh was <0.1 and T4 16.2 (10-25) she said T4 was middle range so fine, and its

tsh that matters, and she wanted that suppressed so was happy with result.

Been online and discovered heart probs can be caused by thyroxine overmedication

and believe this is whats happened with me, I have heartbeat/electrical

problems going back to 1974 and my heart is very sensitive to any stimulants, so

I think the Thyroxine overmedication is causing my heart problems, and to treat

those problems Im given beta blocker, when really all I need is dose reduction

for thyroxine. At least that's my feeling/thoughts about it.

I see my usual GP tomorrow, bearing in mind Im on beta blocker, would you say I

should ask to try 12.5mg daily or be more cautious and ask to alternate 12.5/25

to see if it improves things and what should I ask her to do about beta

blockers? Started them 12 days ago in hospital, so Im still on starting dose

(2.5mg bisoprolol) and I don't want to raise it if altering thyroxine will sort

things out. I think because Im still having some heart probs the Dr may want to

increase the BB hence quickly checking with you lovely people.

Any thoughts or experiences to share please?

Carole

Hi, Betablockers can reduce T4 to T3 conversion, which makes T4 thyroid replacement less effective which is why betablockers are used in hyperthyroidism because of the reduction in the active hormone T3. I can't see that with those results that you are overmedicated. Ask for FT3 to be tested next time if you can. > thyroid treatment > From: lloegr@...> Date: Mon, 7 Mar 2011 12:04:39 +0000> Subject: supressed tsh put on beta blockers see gp tmrw - thoughts please> > > > Ive hashi dx from 2007. was taking 50mcg thyroxine with tsh consistently 0.1 (0.3-0.6) so dose was dropped to 50/25 alternating, but tsh still 0.1 so dose was dropped to 25mcg, 3 months back.
