Can accidental injection of iodine cause problems for Hypothyroidism

HI ALL

When I first attended GP's due to health problems not long after the birth of my

second Daughter I had to have an IVP, and the injection for this was done by my

GP. However he missed the vein which made my arm get pins and needles.

It has come to my attention that they use IODINE, and first would this be

correct, and as IODINE is not always good for certain types of Hypothyroidism,

could it have caused any harm. I have had three IVP'S in all. It is also

injected into the blood stream and not by pill to swallow, so in turn does it

cause or would it have caused more problems. I had not been tested for a thyroid

problem when these IVP'S were done let alone diagnosed.

As I have seen so much about Iodine I thought that I would ask this question.

Hi Kathleen:

The iodine is not going to hurt you in any way. Iodine is ingested by pill or

lugol's drops and from there it enters the bloodstream. The thyroid takes what

it needs and then the breast, and then the reproductive organs. Every 17 minutes

the blood rushes through the thyroid gland and distributes itself to all other

organs which need it..

When people talk about being allergic to these iodine injections, what they are

really allergic to is something in the contrast dye. If you're allergic to

iodine, you're dead. Our bodies cannot survive without iodine or salt. The

iodine will not hurt you in anyway. It is also a common mis-belief that iodine

will harm people with Hashi's. The opposite is true, iodine can cure Hashi's but

it helps to be on the iodine protocol and understand this before undertaking.

Contrast material, or contrast dye, is a substance used to make specific organs,

blood vessels, or types of tissue (such as tumors) more visible on X-rays.

Contrast material may also be used during a CT scan, an ultrasound, or an MRI

scan.

Common contrast material substances include iodine, barium, and gadolinium.

Cheers,

JOT

HI JOT

Thanks for this info, but is there any test to find out if one needs iodine, and

would a GP help with this one.

When we had rabbits and I had a goat we had to clip rabbits toenails and my

goats hoofs had to be cut, and it was advised to use Iodine if in doing this it

caused them to bleed.

The fact that I am vegetarian could I be lacking in Iodine, and could there be

enough Iodine be in the Himalayan salt,as I do have a sprinkle of this on my

dinner, but not overdo it and how can one tell if you are lacking in Iodine.

Hi Kathleen:You should be able to find plenty of info from this site, including info on the iodine loading test...http://optimox.com/Vegetarians are known to be low in iodine and VITAMIN b-12....... 95% of the population on earth is deficient in iodine. Even if you are not low on iodine, supplementing with it will not do harm, but can only do good. There is not enough iodine in food, a multiple vitamin or sea salt to help your system much. We recommend 12.5 mgs a day as a basic dose. You can do a google search to find symptoms of iodine deficiency, but mostly it is easy to spot. Patients are always painted with iodine before any surgery or procedure which may cause infection. Basically, anyone who is sick, is lacking iodine.Cheers, JOT > HI JOT> Thanks for this info, but is there any test to find out if one needs iodine, and would a GP help with this one.> When we had rabbits and I had a goat we had to clip rabbits toenails and my goats hoofs had to be cut, and it was advised to use Iodine if in doing this it caused them to bleed.> The fact that I am vegetarian could I be lacking in Iodine, and could there be enough Iodine be in the Himalayan salt,as I do have a sprinkle of this on my dinner, but not overdo it and how can one tell if you are lacking in Iodine.> Kathleen

HI JOT

There is a lot here on this site to read, but I find it interesting in the fact

that it mentions iodine deficiency in connection to breast cancer and

fibrocystic disease which is mentioned as a finding when I had a masectomy (the

3rd op). I also wonder if deficiency may be the cause of pain in my neck and

ears (there is no wax in my ears).

The gyny specialist in London wanted me to have oestrogen, but this was also

implicated in the breast cancer, and I know it would not do me any good having

used the cream.

I was ill on a liquid mixture from H & B and took it to my GP and he mentioned

about the fact that it had KELP in it, so this type of iodine would not do me

anygood. It also mentions about the fact that iodine helps to prevent lung

problems and don't I know about lung problems in childhood.

If the Mother has hypothyroidism, and is also short of iodine could the baby be

short of both thyroxine and iodine. Any ideas on what happens to a baby in these

circumstances.

I have not been sick (as in bringing anything up for a long time now).

I could do with extra saliva in my mouth as that in turn will prevent my teethe

and gum problems.

I am going to mention to my GP about iodine, and if he simply poo hoos me I am

going to at least try iodine, but not from kelp. I would like to locate some in

UK if possible, due to the cost of import charges.

I have noted the loading tests. I am also already taking vit b12, but have not

tried taking iodine apart from kelp. I also think that I have had to become

vegetarian due to the prolapse.

My Sister used to obtain some seaweed (she lived near the sea) to put on her

arthritis to ease the pain.

I believe most of us who started on the iodine protocol many moons ago, did so

because Iodine is a cancer preventative. Derry wrote a great book on it a few

years back. Iodine cures cancer.

http://www.amazon.com/Breast-Cancer-Iodine-Prevent-Survive/dp/1552128849/ref=sr_\

1_1?ie=UTF8 & qid=1306449640 & sr=8-1

Don't forget that the iodine protocol needs to be followed if you are going to

supplement. Look under IODINE in the files...
