Ask the hospital for his secretary's number and contact her. I find that a lot of private doctors who work at various hospitals have a central filing system of their own and nothing to do with the hospital. They 'rent' their spaces from the hospital, unlike the NHS hospitals.

Hospital / GP Records Request - Experiences

HiI've just emailed my Endocrinologist to see how I go about getting a copy of the medical records he has on me.Long story short - I saw him privately and the hospital (BMI Healthcare) cannot give me a straight answer, saying some Drs store the files out of the hospital.

Check this out Neil http://www.dh.gov.uk/en/Managingyourorganisation/Informationpolicy/Patientconfidentialityandcaldicottguardians/DH_4084411

No doctor, as far as I am aware, whether NHS or private can

withhold health records from their patients. This is under the Data Protection

Act.

Hi

I've just emailed my Endocrinologist to see how I go about getting a copy of

the medical records he has on me.

Long story short - I saw him privately and the hospital (BMI Healthcare) cannot

give me a straight answer, saying some Drs store the files out of the hospital.

Something doesnt seem right here !

Anyone had any experiences of getting their Hospital records ?

Cheers

Neil

PS - Reason I need them, is that they cover a years worth of treatment that my

GP has no knowledge of and I want a second opinion, so need all the information

I can get to get a clear background history.

Thanks Sheila

I called the main number for BMI too and now they're saying I must write to

their records officer and that depends if they even have them, like you say some

private Drs keep their files elsewhere.

Fingers crossed I get what I'm looking for.

Cheers

Neil
