Guest guest
Hi Margaret: My own experience tells me that it is both iodine and iron which helps grow the old eyebrow.. My iron levels were always pretty good, but back in 1945 they removed iodine from our bread sources. I was born in 1956 so I was never getting extra supplementing throughout my entire childhood. We did eat a great deal of fish and foods high in iodine, but it never seemed enough (and isn't for most people). I hardly had any eyebrows at all, but once I started on ERFA and started supplementing with IODINE my eyebrows grew in.. I actually have two hanging above my eyes now. It's a miracle ! It is the combination of IRON and IODINE which grew my eyebrows... Cheers, JOT > Can anybody who has lost the outer part of their eyebrows let me know if these have regrown once they are on the correct medication? I don't physically feel that bad these days but still have the missing outer third of eyebrows, dry skin and not much body hair or head hair! > Margaret
Guest guest
Hi Margaret. I had hardly any outer third eyebrow hair - and the rest was sparse. I have been on thyroid meds for about 3 years now and for the past year they have begun to grow back. I put a little bit of eyelash dye on them and they don't look too bad. I now take 1 grain NDT and 40 mg T3. B
Guest guest
Hi Margaret, I wish I could reassure you that you will get re-growth. Unfortunately, this has not happened to me, but I have heard that in younger people, once on the correct thyroid hormone replacement, their hair does grow back. I have been on the right thyroid hormone replacement now for 8 years, but sadly, my skin is still dry with little body or head hair. I have tried all the recommendations from all sources, yet I still have to do a vigorous ex-foliating every week and have to use lashings of E45 cream. I also use a very fine oil which I put onto my skin every day which is Re-Gem-Oil which is fantastic and I would HIGHLY recommend this to all those suffering with dry skin. Apart from that, I am in blooming good health, feel fantastic and have no symptoms of hypothyroidism whatsoever and this is what's so important to me. You can 'hide' the 'signs' but having symptoms which won't go away is terrible. I don't physically feel that bad these days but still have the missing outer third of eyebrows, dry skin and not much body hair or head hair! I am on 75mcg T4 and 10mcg T3 By the way I have come across a good website that sells Dr Mercola's recommended items. Guest guest
Hi ladies, Thanks for the reassurance that I am not the only one with very thin hair and missing eyebrows. I will get some iron supplements and see what that does. It does say on the NHS website that missing eyebrows is a sign of advanced hypothyroidism. Mind you I did present with such a sign for years and my GP still told me I was 'normal'. If only! Guest guest
Mine haven't regrown. I used to use a brow pencil on them, but that just pulled more hairs out. I read that using an eyeshadow powder is a gentler way to go. I switched over to that, and it looks natural and doesn't pull my brow hairs out. I use an angled, narrow brush to apply. Guest guest
Hi Just looked up Hertoghe - that's me all right. At least it was recognised by somebody!! It really does beggar belief the treatment we get doesn't it? We sit there before our doctors, overweight, miserable, thinning hair, dry skin AND only half our eyebrows and they still say we are NORMAL. What are they taught at medical school?Never mind reforming the NHS it needs razing to the ground and starting from scratch doesn't it? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AHvHoHzkJ2I & NR=1 Margaret > > it's the 'sign of Hertoghe' isn't it....pity the dr didn't read the NHS website.... > > > > > > Hi ladies, > > > > Thanks for the reassurance that I am not the only one with very thin hair and missing eyebrows. Guest guest
hi Margaret, I was one of the lucky ones- mine grew back age 47 after 17 years of only the main bit left. Maybe I was luckier as I'm fairly dark skinned for european and therefore tend to have stronger hair growth- but my lower calves remain bald- but i have no complaints about that! thyroid treatment From: sheila@...Date: Thu, 2 Jun 2011 09:12:33 +0100Subject: RE: Eyebrows!
