Guest guest
Hello all. I have under active thyroid. diagnosed by doctor 6 years ago although had it for many years before that ending up making me bedridden. 125mcg of levo got me to a certain stage of recovery but not enough to get a job etc. I saw Dr. Peatfield recnetly and now am on weel 4 of his medication plan. Everything was going fine. My basal am temperature prior to his treatment was around early 25 i.e. 36.20 and night time was lower at around 35.10. Week three I saw ain improvement with the temps getting higher and nearer eachother. Yesterday I went to see osteopath (have been seeing him for years) - stiff lower back and stiff neck with give headaches when I lay down only. He always cures this and I am fine until say I do some heavy lifting. The two days after seeing him I am generally sore in back and neck, so not unusual. Today was no difference. But at around 10 am it was as though someone hit me. My body felt like a lead weight, I could hardly move and I was so cold all over that I felt like I was in a freezer and could not stop shivering. This continued until midday. I do nt actually feel sick or ill. Just a slight headach now behind eyes maybe from tension. But since midday my temperature has crept up from 37.12 at midday and now it is 5pm and my temp is 38.85. I dont know what to do. Yet I still feel freezing cold inside and outside. Should I continue with his medications? I did have a kidney removed 6 months ago .. a donation not because I was ill, and the pharmacist said I was not to take NSAID's, so I am loath to take those to try and get temperature down. I feel exceptionally tired and body so heavy I think it is heavier than an elephant so getting around is like a snail. But apart form the slight headache I dont feel sick or faint. But have spent most of day sitting down only getting up for the bathroom. I am rather worried ... I have not been ill (except thyroid) for so many years and now .... Advice please Diane s
Guest guest
can you advise what exactly the plan consists of? chris > > Hello all. >
Guest guest
Hello Diane and welcome to our Forum where I hope you get all the help and support you need. First, have you contacted your GP. You could have contacted some form of 'flu and I know they say that you should stay warm, drink plenty of water and 'flu medications, but with your fairly recent problem of donating a kidney (what a magnificent thing to do) and not being able to take any form of NSAID's, your GP would want to know about the suffering you are going through right now, especially with such a high temperature. As you are unable to take any form of NSAID's what has your doctor suggested you take should you ever need such medication? Many such people benefit from other medications such as Tylenol (acetaminophen) or for those with severe chronic pain, you can get prescription narcotics, like OxyContin, Percocet, and Vicodin but no doubt you will know about these. I honestly very much doubt that your symptoms are anything to do with the medication that Dr Peatfield recommended for you. Can you let us know exactly what supplements you are now taking? I too visited an osteopath on numerous occasions when I had severe lower back pain, pain in my shoulders and under both heels, but every time I got out to the street after a treatment, my legs became so weak they felt like jelly and I could hardly stand up - I honestly don't know why I kept going back because the treatments never did me any good and I think made me worse - I was desperate. My GP had told me that I had a prolapsed disc, but eventually it was found, by a doctor outside of the NHS that the levothyroxine I was taking was not converting to the active thyroid hormone T3. He prescribed me natural thyroid extract which contains all the thyroid hormones your body requires i.e. T4, T3. T2. T1 and calcitonin for the bones. This medication was like a wonder drug. I started to feel the benefits after only 9 days and 7 years later, I am still 100% fit. After starting thyroid extract, the severe pains disappeared along with all my other symptoms, especially brain fog, which was particularly bad. I was getting the severe pains because my body was not getting the T3 it so badly needed causing my muscles to go into severe spasm. The levothyroxine you are taking is a prohormone, it does little in the body and it has to convert through the kidneys, liver, brain, skin and hundreds of other thyroid hormone receptors throughout the body into the ACTIVE thyroid hormone triiodothyronine (or T3). T3 is needed by every cell in your body and brain to make them function. There is a large minority of us who are unable to convert T4 to T3, though the NHS refuse to recognise this and without this knowledge, doctors will never be able to help their patients as they believe levothyroxine is all that is needed. How wrong they can be. I would carry on with Dr Peatfield's regime if possible, especially the adrenal support but do call your doctor as he knows your case.
