Hi Sue,

take with you any lab results you have with you. No need to be nervous, btw - he is a really nice, laid back, guy. You will be asked to fill in a questionnaire before the consultation, so make sure you know which medication/ supplements etc you are taking. - other than that - relaaax..... and beware Dr. Skinner's wicked sense of humour - you have been warned <g>

Good luck,

Hi Sue

Yes, taking your blood tests is a good idea but the surgery will ring your GP for them if you can't take them with you.

No need to be nervous he is very approachable and kind.

This could be the first day of a new life of health.

Good luck.

Hi Kim and Sue

There is no need to take anything with you apart from any

previous thyroid function test results you have had done together with the

reference range for each test done. Go to our FILES section and scroll

down to the Folder entitled 'NHS Information for Patients. Open that folder and

open the document 'First Visit to Endocrinologist'. This shows lots of hints

and tips which would apply with any consultant you see, so have a read of this

information. Dr Skinner has a very dry sense of humour, I like it, he has me in

stitches, but some people might feel a bit put off - but don't be - this guy is

wonderful and has given health back to thousands of NHS failures. Good luck,

and send him a big chunk of my love.

What was the massive argument about Sue - was it because you are

taking Nutri Adrenal Extra. This is a supplement full of essential minerals and

vitamins, which doctors should know does nothing other than helping their patients

who have low adrenal reserve - but then, TUT TUT! why would we expect NHS

doctors to know anything about this?

Don't be nervous of Dr Skinner, he is a lovely ish doctor

with a wicked sense of humour and knows how to give you back your normal

health.

Thankyou all for your advice and support, the nerves come from being treated so

badly by the NHS, i have been lied to, decieved, bullied and treated like a

general inconveniance, so it sort of gets you feeling like that in the end. I am

looking forward so much to meeting Dr Skinner and yes Sheila i will give him

that chunk of love you send with me :) and Kim i will put a comment on this

thread when i get home from my appointment :) Thanks again all, luv Sue X

Hi again Sheila, The argument was to do with my appointment with Dr Skinner, my

gp sent me a choose and book referal that did not arrive so by the time i got a

reminder, i only had so long to make the appointment, so in a panic i asked to

see Prof J.A.F at the Queen (none of the hospitals that your

recomended doctors work at where on the choose and book). Having then asked on

here and looked on certain other sites, the lady in question did not come highly

recommended (was said to be very rude and uncaring), so i rang my surgery and

asked to speak to my gp, he was not available, so i explained to the secratary

that, i had changed my mind and would like to cancel that appointment and

instead see Dr Skinner, she asked me if he was a endoc and i said i presumed so,

she then asked for a fax number, when i didnt know it and she said, it didnt

matter she would find all the info she needed. Well 15 minutes later she rang to

say my referal letter was ready to be picked up. After collection i e-mailed Dr

Skinner requesting an appointment, i waited a week, had'nt heard anything back

so telephoned and left a message. That evening Dr Skinners secratary phoned me

and asked me to read who the letter of referal was addressed to, on hearing

consultant endoc , she informed me that he is'nt and, that my gp needed

informing of this and that i would have to send the referal to her and she would

write to my gp and inform him of this and, if he was still happy for me to see

Dr S then Dr S was happy to see me. Dr S's secratary did not hear back so we

both assumed all was well and she posted off my conformation. Saturday morning

my gp rang me on my mobile saying things along the line of, he felt like i had

duped him into the referal and he would not of agreed to it (he even tried to

tell me that he was'nt allowed to refer to Dr Skinner), and that his secratary

had made an error of judgement etc etc, he said he was not happy for me to see

him and i said, are you refusing to refer me to Dr S, he said no im not ( i

should think not), he then said that he would refuse to give me whatever Dr S

prescribed and, i would have to pay for the private prescriptions for the rest

of my life. He asked me to postone at least until he could do a bit more

research, i said i was not prepared to do that. After a very heated argument

and a hang up (him by the way), he phoned me back and, i asked very sharply

....did you hang up on me ?, he said no he thought i had hung up on him and then

proceeded to be a human being and said that ok he would be HAPPY for me to see

Dr S and that he would have to get permission from the pct before he could

fulfill any prescriptions etc. He apolagised and said he did,nt like falling out

with his patients and that he needed his patients to know he was there for them

to help them (must of got the good medical practice booklet out lol). I said

that i was quite prepared to go down the self treatment road and that i would be

grateful if he would be prepared to monitor me if it came to that, he said he

would need permission off the pct for that also. so there you have it, I got my

way again Sheila :), although my partner and i both remember him saying a while

back, would i like a referal to Dr S but, i said i prefered the nhs to sort this

for me as finances hav'nt been brilliant of late, so it is a bit of a mistery as

to why he went off on one at me like that in the first place! Sorry that was so

long. luv Sue X

Hi all, Just got back from my appointment with Dr Skinner and guess what... I am

Hypothyroid!! and he says, i probably have been for many years!!. What a

wonderful, funny and caring man :) He took all of my symptoms into

consideration. He is going to write a letter to my GP telling him of his

diagnosis and recommended treatment regime, all i have to do now is wait for his

letter to hit my doctors desk and see what his (the GP's) plan of action is

going to be, I hope its not the bury his head and wait for it all to go away one

!!! Still, if he refuses i will either get it off the net or, Dr Skinner will

give me a private prescription and i will definetly be writing a very strong

letter of complaint to this doctor and the PCT. We will see how it goes. Kim, I

dont think you have anything to worry about hun, he was lovely but, i would take

your blood test results and any other info on yourself that could be relevant as

he does look at them. Good luck tomorrow Kim and, thankyou again everyone for

all your help and advice. What would we all do without you. luv Sue X

Hi Sue, I am so

pleased that at last, you have got a diagnosis after suffering so much. I would

love to be there when your GP opens the letter from Dr Skinner. If your

GP refuses to take into consideration this diagnosis and doesn't go ahead with

the recommended treatment, you will need to demand a written explanation for

his refusal to not do so, but that might not happen. Let's wait and see

and then take it from there.

Well done.

Luv - Sheila
