Guest guest
Hi , when you take levothyroxine (T4) this is a prohormone and takes up to 6 weeks to be fully utilised by the cells. It is a prohormone having little action, and has to convert to the active thyroid hormone T3. T3 has a very short half life of a couple of days but after taking T3, it peaks in the blood a couple or so hours after taking it and you feel the effect of it leaving your body after about 6 hours, that is why we always recommend splitting your T3 dose throughout the day - mostly twice daily, or three times daily. We recommend stopping the thyroid hormones before blood is drawn because if you do not, the free T4 or free T3 could be raised and your GP is likely to be alarmed telling you to lower your dose, which many patients have been persuaded to do at their peril. You cannot compare synthetic T4 with natural thyroid extract, the latter having all the thyroid hormones, T4, T3, T2, T1 and calcitonin. You need to start natural thyroid extract at no more than 1 grain (60mgs) when first changing over - stay on that for 7 days and then increase by another 30mgs and if no adverse effect after about 10 days, increase by another 30mgs. You should take your Erfa with you when you have your blood drawn and take it immediately this has been done. Luv - Sheila I have my endo appointment, and my consultant is really good and I have been to so many so sticking with this one. This appointment is to check my thyroid levels, then possible trying armour (erfa). I have tried this before and felt rubbish but I did go in taking 175mg equivalent to thyroxin and I think it was too fast, so I am deciding to try it again. Guest guest
Hi , nothing surprises me about thyroid meds! It isn't usual to feel bad on stopping T4 for about a week as by then the levels in the body has halved, but some folk are more sensitive that others. It is not necassary to stop T4 for 24 hours before a test, but it is for any T3 containing med. As for starting NDT see the paper in the forum files- 'how to take natural dessicated thyroid' written by Dr. P- you have to start slow to avoid the shock of too much T3 that your body isn't used to. > thyroid treatment > From: racheyb111@...> Date: Wed, 26 Jan 2011 13:15:33 +0000> Subject: Does anyone else feel like this> > Hi everyone, > > Not to sure if have been following my threads but haven't posted in a while.> I have my endo appointment, and my consultant is really good and I have been to so many so sticking with this one.
