Guest guest
Maybe we need to look at the sources of what she says? I notice she hasn't given any. Even when you look at the original scientific papers you often find that the conclusions don't reflect the data. Also many scientific studies are scientifically flawed, and only a trained statistician can spot what is wrong with them. (I am currently reading " The hidden story of cancer " by Peskin, and the first section of the book is a criticism of many unscientific " scientific " studies.) I think it is a generally sloppy article because she says, " many alternative doctors think it is OK to give anyone thyroid hormone to the point their body temperature rises " . This is not what they are doing. They are trying to treat the patient to the point where they are symptom-free. Sheila often says that temperature is one of the last things to get right, and may never go back up to 37C/98.4F. It is not very helpful for her to say, " Figure out a different way to fix your metabolism if you still have symptoms and low body temperature. " I notice she doesn't say what those other possible ways are. Finally, even supposing what she says might be true, if it is a choice between the TRH signalling parts of the brain, and the whole body having adequate thyroid hormone, surely the latter is to be preferred? Perhaps sometimes the solution is not 100% perfect, but still preferable to the original problem. Personally I wouldn't pay any attention to such a carelessly written and unreferenced article.
