Guest guest
Hi Vivien, here's my recent experience of hydrocortisone. I'm seeing Dr Peatfield - well, I talk to him by phone as I'm too ill to travel. I started hc about 5/6 weeks ago. I was on 6 nax before and I've cut it down to 3, gradually.I have found that I want to 'graze' more so I've reduced the amount I eat for my main meals. I don't know how much you'll be on - I've gone up to 35mg which is quite a lot but my adrenals were in a bad state. I've noticed a few side effects - drying skin which I use baby oil on. I'm also keeping a close eye out for candida - and will start a candida diet if necessary. I wish you luck. It'll be interesting to hear how you get on. Oh - I'm taking my daily temps too to try and stabilize them. All best, Alison>> Hello,> Dr. Peatfield advised me to take hydrocortisone for my adrenals. Should I cut down (or stop) nutri adrenal extra while taking hydrocortisone?>

Guest guest
hi Alison 35mg's quite a high dose (tho i went higher than that, at one point, but paying some attention to my gut, specifically taking stuff like slippery elm, seemed to make me need less hc - The Stress Effect book talks abou this, i think) I've been told that eating a low GI diet: < 39, helps hc works better, and so too does avoiding caffeine, breads, unsprouted grains too. the excess insulin (from caffeine, and higher GI foods) causes problems, apparently....maybe if you ate lower GI you could get away with less HC? something for you to consider, maybe.... have you tried taking HCL with your HC to get better absorption? chris > down to 3, gradually.I have found that I want to 'graze' more so I've > reduced the amount I eat for my main meals. Guest guest
Hi thanks for this - yes I know it is a high dose. Dr P said I mustn't go any higher and that I also have thyroid problems. I'm hoping to start either Armour or T3 within a few weeks - because even on 35 Hc, I am able to do very, very little - although I do feel better in myself.I'll certainly look into slippery elm (what a wonderful name). I'm being quite strict now about sugars and chocolates (shame) also low GI foods. What's HCL?All best, Alison>> hi Alison> > 35mg's quite a high dose (tho i went higher than that, at one point, but paying some attention to my gut, specifically taking stuff like slippery elm, seemed to make me need less hc - The Stress Effect book talks abou this, i think)> > I've been told that eating a low GI diet: < 39, helps hc works better, and so too does avoiding caffeine, breads, unsprouted grains too. the excess insulin (from caffeine, and higher GI foods) causes problems, apparently....maybe if you ate lower GI you could get away with less HC?> > something for you to consider, maybe....> > have you tried taking HCL with your HC to get better absorption?>
Guest guest
http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/whats-new/ " Another tip before raising your HC higher or switching to Medrol: try adding an HCL (hydrochloric acid) supplement to your HC dose, such as Hydrochloric Betaine. HCL represents the majority of your digestive fluids, and many hypothyroid folks can be low, making digestion less effective. Adding HCL can be the trick to absorb your HC better. " HCL - i understand it to be 'stomach acid'. you can buy it many places, eg www.revital.co.uk, possibly yournutritionshop.com for which there is a discount code for in the files? there's probably a bitmore about it on stop the thyroid madness.... i'm not saying sliippery elm might help you, just that it helpde me because i think it calmed down some intestinal inflammation....the author of the stress effect said that gut inflammation caused adrenal issues, if i remember rightly. it's worth a read....think he said take l -glutamine at night, which helps the gut repair causing less inflammation etc? have you done the hertoghe questionnaire in the files to see what else you may be deficient in? some doctors won't give hc without dhea to counter balance it...? have you been able to get any tests for things like pregnenolone or dhea? hope you feel much better soon :-) chris > > Hi thanks for this - yes I know it is a high dose. Guest guest
Hi vivien, If you need the adrenal support you probably won't gain weight- I lost it! As you are seeing Dr. P I suggest you ask him- I believe he does phone calls on Wednesdays. > thyroid treatment > From: foffion@...> Date: Sat, 4 Jun 2011 15:36:07 +0000> Subject: Hydrocortisone and nutri adrenal extra> > Hello,> Dr. Peatfield advised me to take hydrocortisone for my adrenals. Guest guest
Hi Vivian, I've been taking NAX for the past 18 months along with HC. HC replaces what your adrenal glands are not making, so gives them a rest from struggling to cope and the NAX gives them some vitamins so they can start to heal. Makes no sense to me to stop the NAX. After 18 months, I've dropped down to 2.5 or 5 of HC and am about ready to stop taking it.... and I still take NAX... (2 a day). I think you would put weight on if you had too much cortisone, i.e. if you took it and didn't need it but if you are just taking what you need, why would the weight go on? x > > Hello, > Dr. Peatfield advised me to take hydrocortisone for my adrenals. Guest guest
was thiking about this, and i read once that turmeric can help sensitise the cortisol receptor - may be that could mean you'd get more out of your cortisol and would need slightly less? please don't take my word for it tho, research it or run it by dr peatifeld? http://www.greatvistachemicals.com/herbal-supplements/turmeric.html " It also sensitizes the body's cortisol receptor sites, and its anti-inflammatory properties are considered at least equal to those of cortisones. Guest guest
Sorry Vivien - I seem to have hijacked this thread slightly. Excuse me if I carry on - just a really interesting comment about turmeric, Chris. I've read recently it's also good as an anti-fungal agent. I use a lot in cooking - marinades and so forth - mainly because I've always had a lot of middle eastern lodgers in my house and they eat it with everything. So I feel there has to be some wisdom in this. All best, Alison>> was thiking about this, and i read once that turmeric can help sensitise the cortisol receptor - may be that could mean you'd get more out of your cortisol and would need slightly less?>
Guest guest
Hi thanks for info about HCL. I think I'll try some.As far as other tests go, I'm slightly avoiding my G.P at the moment, so trying to limit the number of tests I have. So no, I haven't had any tests for pregnenolone. The dhea results came with the saliva test and they were ok.I suppose I'm hoping that, if I can get my T3/T4 right that eventually everything will slot into place? Not sure whether this is over-optimistic or whether I'm well advised to keep everything simple for the moment. the adrenal group queried whether I needed florinef - but again, I'd like to avoid extra pills as far as I can . I'm already rattling. Thanks again for all the good advice.Best wishes, AlisonP.S. who wrote 'The Stress Effect' ?>> http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/whats-new/> " Another tip before raising your HC higher or switching to Medrol: try adding an HCL (hydrochloric acid)
